FRANCAIS The ninety-fivelmembers of Le Cercle Fran- cais are French students with high scholastic averages. They meet once a month to learn more about the customs and people of France. A lively initiation party began a full year of activities. The club presents an assembly pro- gram in the spring and participates in the Modern Language Day at USC. Members compete in the National French Contest each year, and many correspond with foreign stu- dents. Since the club this year is so large, a plan- ning committee consisting of the officers and one delegate from each French class was established. They plan programs and other events and present their ideas to the club for approval. Le Cercle Francais helps develop a broader understanding of France in all students. The aim of the GARNET AND BLACK is to inform the Rock Hill High students about school activities as a result of a broader and more effective coverage of news. ln addition to the usual articles on sports, social, and curricular activities, bits of jest and mirth are added for spice. The GARNET AND BLACK is a member of the National Scholastic Association, the S.C. Scholastic Press Association, and the Quill and Scroll to which six members of the staff were accepted this year. They are Allen Strait, Johnny Shillinglaw, Bennett Tarleton, Mary Lou Latham, Betsy Sikes, and Fran Burgess. The GARNET AND BLACK is published monthly by the staff and reporters and is under the supervision of Mrs. Bazemore and Miss Stowe.
