H. W. IENKINS, Head Coach C. E. MCCAW, Assistant Coach L. E. AVERY. Assistant Coach Butch Phillips led the drive which accounted tor the last score and finally plowed over from the one. Crice's kick for the point was wide. ROCK HILL 13 COLUMBIA 13 This was one the Columbia Caps were doped to win COCLCAQ5 by two touchdowns. With George out, the Bearcats weren't given a chance to stop hard-running Buster Bhame and his cohorts. But the Bock Hillians more than held their own and came up with a 13-l3 deadlock. This game more than any other displayed the fighting spirit which marked the play of the Bearcats. Columbia scored in the second quarter when an at- tempted quick kick by Karl Grice hit a Bock Hill player and bounded into the end zone. There Bobby Neely ot Columbia grabbed it for a touchdown, Bhame kicked the point. In the third quarter limmy Wells ran 7l yards for the second Cap tally. The kick for the point was wide. Despite the two-touchdown deticit the Bearcats roared back. Bobby Falls intercepted a Cap pass and blazed 50 yards down the sidelines to set up the first Bock Hill counter. Two plays later Grice tired to lim Phillips in the end zone for the score. Grice also added the point. Later Captain Bobby Tinkler partially blocked a Colum- bia punt and the 'Cats took over on the Cap 45. A long pass and a penalty put the ball on the one and Hal Saver- ance bulled over guard for the score. Grice missed the point.

1 was GRICE HERLONG CRAIG Back End Guard Russell Sutton was sensational as he accounted for three Sumter touchdowns, an extra point, and set up the other TD. The only Rock Hill score came on a neat pass play from Karl Grice to Wingback Larry Connor, which covered 45 yards. Connor was flying when he took the aerial and he outran everybody in sight. Grice kicked the point. Bobby Falls was outstanding for the Bearcats as was Buck George, Billy McGill, Iimmy Gallman, Swain Wright, Bobby Rudder and Iimmy Phillips. ROCK HILL 19 FLORENCE 0 Two quick scores in the first quarter put the Bearcats off to a good start against the Yellow Iackets from Flor- ence and a tally in the final quarter gave them an im- pressive l9 to U win at the Stadium. The win was a costly one because Buck George, sensational back, received a back injury in the first period and was carried from the field. The injury caused him to miss the following weeks game with Columbia. George got the first score on a nifty 20-yard run. He started around his own left end, faked a wouldebe tackler neatly, and scooted all the way standing up. Grice missed the point. Later in the quarter after Bock Hill covered a Florence fumble on the Iacket nine, lim Neal plowed to the two and Gary Stephens slammed his way over the middle. This time Grice's placement was good. AND CHEERLEADERS Swain Wright, Tinlcler, and lohnny Brunson were lead- ers in a Rock Hill line which played a magnificent game. ROCK HILL 21 GEORGETOWN 7 For the first time since l936 the Bearcats were meeting a foe other than Chester on Thanksgiving Day. Officials had decided that a cooling off period between the two old rivals was necessary. So, the Georgetown Gators came to Rock Hill, but they couldn't stop the Bearcats. Thirteen Beacats were play- ing their last game in a High School uniform and they bowed out in a blaze of glory. Captain Bobby Tinkler tallied the first touchdown when he made a leaping catch of a Karl Grice pass in the end zone. lt was the best catch of the year at the Stadium. Grice added the first of his three points from placement. Saverance accounted for the second Rock Hill marker. With the ball on the midfield stripe in the third period, he broke through the middle for 48 yards. ln the next play he blasted over for the TD. Saverance also got the final marker on a one-yard plunge after a l3-yard ad- vance by Butch Phillips set the play up. fuel Sweatte turned in a 90-yard kickoff return for the Gators' only score. Ray Comer, Phyllis Fincher. Bethene McClain, Gene Pettus. Nancy Dunlap, Frances Iones. Ned Hunsucker.
