The Junior Class provided a beautiful atmosphere for the banquet and dance by decorating on a theme of 'Flirtation YValk.', Flirtation lValk is a historic strolling area where cadets have long walked their Sweethearts. At one point along this path is the famed kissing rockf, Legend has it that if a girl refuses to kiss her escort be- neath this large rock, she will see the, rock fall. This por- down Flirtation alk tion of i'Flirtation Walkll was charrningly depicted by the Juniors. As the evening drew to a close, the queen and her at- tendents were presented. The queen was Nancy Gale, and her six Junior attendants were: Carol Hart, Shirley Den- ham, Linda Newcomb, Sharon lVheelock, Ruth Noon, and Nita Rick. The Grand March followed, led by the queen and the Junior Class President. Music was provided by the johnny Kaye orchestra. A-1,5 Rock Falls Varsity Football The Rock Falls Rockets, winners of the number two spot in the Southwest Division of the North Central Con- ference, were picked to win any spot but this. Lacking height, weight, and depth on the bench. Coach Bruce MacDonald's eleven had to make up for the lack of these vital qualities with guts,l' stamina, speed, and endurance. With an overall season record of seven wins and one loss, the Rockets certainly need not bow their heads in shame. Dropping only one game, and that to Hall Township of Spring Valley, the Rockets went on to defeat and pile up an impressive l77 points, against their opponents, 86. Rock Falls also picked up the Inter-City title by defeating Sterling Ttvwnship, l9f13. XYe did not play Newman of Sterling this year because they were dropped from our schedule. The Rockets won all of their home games. beating such powerful teams as Rochelle, Princeton, Mendota, and Dixon. ROCKETS DROP ROCHELLE HUBS, 20-0 The Rock Falls Rockets handed the Rochelle Hubs the bitter pill of defeat on Friday, September 27, trouncing them by a score of 26-0. ROCKETS SLIP BY PRINCETON TIGERS IN HOAIECOAIING TILT, I4-I3 The Princeton Tigers almost spoiled the Rocket homecoming festivities. October 4. Little Louie Ramirez and Harvey XVagner saved the day for the Rockets, by keeping us in the scoring column. How- ever, it was the educated toe of Bill Stanley that gave us the needed extra points to put Rock Falls in the win column. ROCKETS TROUNCE THE HIGHLY-TOUTED MENDOTA TROIIANS 26-7, AND PLACE SEC- OND IN THE NCIC CONFERENCE Scoring honors in the Rocket-Trojan game went to Bob Apple who led the Rockets with two six pointers, while Harvey Wagner and David Gall each had a tally. ROCKETS RIP DIXON IA' REVENGE FOR DE- FEAT OF LAST SEASON The last home game of the football season was with the Dixon Dukes. This was a much sought after victory by Coach MacDonald's eleven. Last year, plagued by the flu bug. the Dukes skipped by the Rockets to the tune of 12--7. This year, revenge struck terror in the hearts of the Dukes. and they fell before the terrihc onslaught of the Rocket linemen and backs. The humbled Dukes marched off the field sadly beaten by the score of 27-7. Largely through the efforts of the coaching staff. and the individual players' fighting spirit. three members of this year's squad received all-conference honors, They were: Captain Jerry Anderson. Guard: Ken Siebel. End: and Harvey Wagner. Quarterback. Eleven members of the squad were lost through graduation. and though they will be sorely missed. the record of their exploits at Rock Falls High School will live forever in the minds of the followers of the game. They were: Alfred Anderson. Ed Colville. Ken Siebel. Tom YVescott. Bob Apple. Ed Cedro. Louie Ramirez. Stan Conboy, Jerry Anderson, Larry Horner. and David Gall. 'X E ,fa Rocket Review Confronted with the loss of four of the five regulars who piloted the 1958 Rocket basketball squad to the second position in the State, Coach Elmer Plew, newly acquired mentor faced dismal prospects of a successful 1958-59 season. At the beginning of the season, Coach Plew began experimenting with key com- binations, hoping to find the successful one that would put them back on the road to Champaign. Playing heads-up ball and with Coach Plewls able guidance, the squad won their first ten games. Then the Rockets fell into a mid-season slump and dropped three consecutive games to Shabbona, Princeton, and Dixon. However, they went on to pile up the impressive season record of 25 wins and 4 losses, or 82 per cent of their games. For the third year in a row, the Rockets won the Inter-city crown, the New- Mor-Roc-Ster Tourney, and the North Central Illinois Conference title. The Rocket loss to Dixon in the final game of the Regional toumament was a disappointment to the community, for they had anticipated another trip to Cham- paign and a Hcracki' at the number one spot. Kenny Siebel's headon collision with Lou Ramirez, while struggling for the ball, was a costly blow. Whether the Rockets would have won with Siebel the second half will be argued for years to come. For the third year in a row Siebel led the Rockets in scoring and rebounding and also led the team this year in free throw percentages. Louie Ramirez put on probably the best exhibition of set shooting and jump shot shooting ever put on by a Rocket player. Throughout the season, Ramirez continually pumped in 15 to 35 footers and was a big factor in the Rocket's success. Another deadly long shooter was 6'-3 Gerald Miller. The combination of Miller and Ramirez resulted in one of the best pair of long shot guards in the state. Miller also did very well in the rebounding department. The two other starters, Jim Brotheridge and Mervin Baker, will wear the school colors again next year. Brotheridge, a 6 foot guard and forward, was the team's third leading scorer and second leading rebounder. Brotheridge was also elected captain of next year's squad. Baker, a sophomore, became a starter as of January 16. He did a very good job at rebounding and was in general, an all-around addition to the squad. Dave, Gall, the Rocket's sixth man and a very reliable reserve was called upon many times to fill in. His floor action and energy sparked the team when needed. Others on the team included two sophomores. Bill Stanley and Jerry Grabeklis. Juniors were Ed johnson and John Eberhardt. All of these boys should see a lot of action next year. nm. .-f . y l. Presidentg Eugene Cervantes, Secretaryg Louie Ramirez, Vice President, Sue Gallentine, Treasurer. I am the Senior Student We, the seniors, fondly dedicate this section of the 1959 Cavalcade to GORDIE SMITH, our Class- mate, friend, and staunch sup- porter of the Chicago Cubs, who because of illness was unable to graduate with us. May the book bring happy memories every time he turns the pages. The big year arrived! For many this was their last year in school. Others were busy making plans to continue their education. The Seniors and Juniors worked together to sponsor the annual Homecoming Dance. During the Christmas holi- days, the Seniors held the annual Christmas Formal. With more experi- ence and under Mr. Andrews' direc- tion, the Seniors presented the Senior Class play, held in the spring. As graduation time neared, the Seniors were busy planning their class trip, and anxiously awaited the Prom, big- gest social event of the year. Bac- calaureate and graduation finally ar- rived and the Seniors proudly received their diplomas from Rock Falls Twp. High School.
