No greater honor can be heaped upon an individual runner than to participate in the All-State Cross-Country meet. A distant runner must bear within him the heart of a lion, the speed of an antelope, and the endurance of a machine. Such was the case of this boy - Don Craig. We, the Cavalcade Staff therefore dedicate the Cross-Country section of this book to him. Our sincerest wishes and hopes are with him that he may in the year i959 again participate in the sport at which he excells. 46 STA f-alba! 'J earn l 'l comm Us 9 . sscuumi - m0SSWll'l' ,msc 3. Don Craig, an up-and-coming iunior was injured at the first part of the season by a hit-and-run driver. Don had showed great progress the year before on the cross-country and track squads. ln the Peoria Invitational meet the Harriers placed l5th, running against some pretty tough competition. The Sterling Invitational showed the Harriers running hard and they came up with a 4th place victory. Participating in the NCIC meet on October 19, the Rock Falls High School Harriers came up with a 3rd place victory. Jerry Bradford was honored by representing Rock Falls High School in the cross-country finals at state thet were held in Champaign. There were also four farmer cheerleaders which were guests of the Rock Falls High School Cheerleaders. They were Irene lShultzsJ Werland, Beverly lBagotJ Partridge, Judy lWerlandD Nehkorn, and Linda X: we it McGloshan. The Snake Dance held an exciting route, starting at the football field and going east on West Fifth Street to Eighth Avenue and north to Second Street to Fifth Avenue and then to the main part of Rock Falls where cheers were led. The second big night was Friday, October ii, which was the game with the Princeton Tigers. The team felt strong in their hearts and won 39-l9 varsity, but Fresh-Soph team lost in a close game 7-6. At the half of the varsity game the queen, Sallie Fluck pictured left was crowned by the 1956 co-queen, Shirley Storlein. Sallie had a beautiful court which consisted of Janelle Dickin- son, Freshman, Delores Luesby, Sophomore, Nancy Gale, Junior, and Pat Burgess as Senior attendant. Fall and Football was the theme of our third and most exciting night of all, which was the dance. The name of the orchestra was Frank Doublin, and the gym was decorated in various varities of fall colors. HOMECOMING QUEEN AND COURT FRONT ROW, left to right: Janelle Dickinson, Delores Leusby.
