Second Row: Shirley Smith, Angeline Ramirez, Shirley Storlien, Shirley Rohde, Sally Gelsinger, Shirley Akridge, Ruth Pitts, Carol Corl, Shirley The members of the Junior Red Cross Council are chosen by popular vote to represent each class. Each year in the spring, a membership campaign is made to get all the students to enroll as members in the Red Cross. The major project of the Club is to help Sterling Township and Newman High Schools fill a chest with health, recreation, and school supplies for students of high school age over seas. Each school also includes the latest edition of its annual in the chest to let these foreign students know some of the things we do in school here. The contents of the chest cost approximately S100 wholesale. This year the chest was made under the supervision of Mr. Barkdoll and we spent about 350 for the chest and our share of the contents. The chest is sent as a good-will gift from us to some school chosen by the National Red Cross Office. After the national dues are paid, the rest of the money is given to the National Childrenis Fund. Miss Crutchfield, sponsor, Donna Billeaux, chair- man, and Phyllis Krone, co-chairman, attended all the official meetings outside of school which pertained to this work. At one of these meetings they presented a farewell gift to Mrs. Harold Downey, who moved to Alton, lllinois. Mrs. Downey had assisted with the work of the Junior Red Cross and also with the Senior Red Cross in this area. Other members of the Council were Shirley Storlein, Sally l-lennings, Angeline Ramirez, Tom Daniels, Sue Schwab and LeRoy Boseneiler, who represented the freshmen, Sally Gelsinger, Benny Thome, Eunice Mathis, Ruth Pitts, Norden Scanlon and Barbara Osborne, who represented the sophomores, Phyllis Sprankle, Shirley Rohde, Tony Coppotelli, Shirley Kinmon, Carol Corl and Bill Chapman, who represented the juniors, and Shirley Smith, Shirley Apple, Shirley Akridge, Kenneth Strike and Cheryl Sheen, who represented the seniors.

Back Row: James Hendricks, Palmer Swanson, Glenn Frank, Kurt Reichardt, Eddie Davis. The first National Honor Society Chapter of Rock Falls High School jj: 4171 was formed in 1951. Since that time, the chapter has developed into an influential and highly respected organization. Selected on the four principles of character, scholarship, leadership, and service, the National Honor Society members are the leaders of the school. Nine junior members from last year returned this year to carry on the purposes of the organization. On November 23, 1953, twenty new members were inducted into the Society. The old members gave a Christmas party for these new members in December to introduce them into the group. The National Honor Society was active in many projects this year. A bake sale and an after-game dance were their main undertakings. Officers for the year were Fern Rhodes, president, Betty Knapp, vice-president, Donna Gelsinger, secretary, and Bonnie Church, publicity chairman. Miss Helen Warren served as treasurer and sponsor of the organization. Danice Wesner
