CLASS OF 1880 According to our records, the first high school in Rock Falls was started in 1873 when two years? work was added to the grades. By 1895, a 4-year curriculum was offered. The first class to graduate was in 1830 when Angie Adair Wickens, Ella E. Dickson, Lizzie N. Coe, Charles D. F. Parks, Maggie Robb and John B. Brown were granted high school diplomas. Many changes have taken place since then. As the town has grown, so has the high school. Instead of 6 in the graduating class, this year we have 95. Instead of two or three teachers who gave part of their time to grade school work, we now have 30 on the faculty. The physical plant, too, has changed. The first high school was located in what is now the City Hall. From there it moved into the Merrill School building and then into a small building east of Merrill. In 1918 the present district was organized and the classes moved into the Christian Church until the original building on West Second was completed. Twenty years later this building had become too small and a new wing was added. Our enrollment continued to increase and again has outgrown the space available, so once more we are beginning a building program. That Class of 75 years ago began a high school record far greater than their brightest dreams.
