How We looked Men I On August 26, 1943, nineteen angelic little faces smiled up at Miss Helen Eversole. Those present on that memorable occasion were Jack Boyer. Sandra Burton, Alice Grove, Larry Hand, Larry Nelson, Joyce Perry, Rex Perry, Jim Pursifull, Ted Pursifull, Neta Slagel, David Smith, Billy Sparks, Gail Tribolet, Larry Whinery, Dan Woods, Eloisa Ybarra, and Betty Day. These same nineteen went on to the uneventful second grade and a new teacher, Mrs. Anna Britt. The third grade saw us gain four new classmates, Lois Geiger, Alice Gentis, Carmen Ralston, and Virginia Hall, and also a new teacher, Mrs. Lela Smith. We gained one new member in the fourth grade by the name of Edward Harlan and lost to Huntington Township, our old friend, Larry Nelson, but we still were privileged to have the same teacher for the first time in our school career. Mrs. Hazel Mitchell was our fifth grade teacher. That year we gained a sweet little girl, whose name was Patricia Close. She later moved to Ohio. Soon after, we lost our new friend, Eddie Harlan, when he moved to Indianapolis. Our total number in the sixth grade was eighteen. We had gained one new member, Joyce Manning. Our teacher was Mrs. Bernice Fulton, wife of our senior class sponsor. In the seventh grade, we had nineteen members, having gained Donald Buck and Arnold Hines, while losing Joyce Manning to Lancaster. We were feeling proud because we were privi- ledged to climb two extra flights of stairs. Eighth grade saw us with eighteen members. Betty Day and Eloisa Ybarra left us but we were joined by an illustrious southern gentleman, Carl Feemster, In the ninth grade, we had atotal of nineteen, this being the year of our unforgettable fresh- man initiation. New members were Ron Jordan and Betty Rhoades. Mr. James Crothers was our class sponsor. Later we were joined by Nancy Thornpkins, while Betty Rhoades moved away. We began our sophomore year with the same number of students. The most horrible ex- perience of our sophomore year was the burning of the school's bus barn in October. Mr. James Crothers still remained our class sponsor. In our junior year, we were sixteen in number, Nancy Tompkins having left us during the summer. This year, our class sponsor was Mrs. Virginia Michael. As graduation nears, we find ourselves with thirteen seniors, Virginia Hall a.nd Larry Hand having left us. Our class sponsor is Mr. Charles Fulton. When April 27 arrives, the following thirteen seniors will depart, Joyce Perry, Delphia Lahr, Lois Geiger, Carmen Ralston, Neta Slagel, Alice Grove, Dave Smith, Larry Whinery, Ron Jordan, Rex Perry, Gail Tribolet, Carl Feemster, and Bill Sparks, having gained knowledge, experience, and invaluable friendships and looking ahead to a great and glorious future.
