M L.. DEDICATION TO MOM AND DAD To you, we, the Seniors of Rock County High, pre- sent this l957 Tiger annual. Without your love, your faith, your counsel, and direction, we would never have reached this point in life. You have given us the determination to say, as Emerson stated: When duty whispers low thou must, The youth replies, 'I can. ' BOARD OF REGENTS Good board members hold the welfare ofthe majority of youth uppermost in their minds in all their deliberations. The board's chief responsibilities are: 1. to develop and improve the educational program, 2, to provide the personnel for staffing the school program, 3, to provide and maintain an educationally efficient physical plant, 4. to secure adequate financial resources, and, 5. to maintain two-way contact with the adult community and the schools. The members of the Rock County Board of Regents make every effort to meet these respon- sibilities. SUPT.'S MESSAGE Congratulations to the 1957 a.nnua1 staff, its sponsor, Miss Neubauer and co-editors, Betty J'o Kapperman and Joan McClurg, This fine annual is a tribute to your ability to work and plan as a group. Also, thanks to the faculty and students who have given freely of their talents, time and energy toward making for another successful year in our academic and activity programs. In the years to come, as you reminisce through this armual, we hope it will help you recall many happy experiences associated with R.C.H.S. YES-WE COME AND GO HAROLD JOHNS Voc. CLASS OF '57 COLORS: Black and White FLOWER: Red Carnation SPONSOR Miss Joycelyn Blakkolb This above all: to thine ownselfbe true, and ir must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. This favorite quotation from our master teacher will remain with us for all time. Shehas given un- seliishly of herself--the many long hours spent with declamatory students--the strain of whipping a play into shape--meeting with a Pep Club committee. Many and varied are her responsibilities. Yet she is always willing to take a few minutes to talk to a student who has a problem. And so as we leave the hill, rna.ny of our fondest memories are of the English classroom where we learned a great deal more than grammar and litera- ture. She shared with us her wonderful philosophy and we say, Thanks, Miss B1akkolb. CLASS OFFICERS President, .Tack Vice-President, Leo Secretary, Brad Treasurer, Larry Sanger SENIOR WILL Being of not so sound minds and not so sound bodies, but pretty good looks, we, the senior class of 1957, bequeath these articles to those we leave behind. To the faculty we leave our blessings and good will for success in handling the future rock 'n rollers of R.C.H.S. To the dear Juniors, we will you our ability to stay out of trouble, good looks, term papers, pencil stubs, seats, and anything else they might find lying around. To the Sophomores we bequeath our brains, ability to roam about the school house, and ability to get along with the fixture Seniors next fall. To the bashful Freshman class we bequeath the schoolhouse map which shows the shortest routes to all points in the schoolhouse, track, football field, and gymnasium. We hope this chart will aid you in avoiding any teachers who sometimes lurk around the corners -- especially note how all paths lead away from the office. Mervin, Marvin, Tiny Reynolds wills his ability to come to school late to Bonnie Kapperman. Larry Sanger wills his Elvis haircut to Robert Porter. Bertha DeVall wills her long, black hair to Janis Buckendorf. A letter a day keeps Marlene Thurlow on her way! My man's an army man, is her slogan. Duwayne Thompson wills his Mercury to Ronnie Marcellus, that he might have a good car to drive. Jed Robertson wills his deep bass voice to Jerry Anderson. Joan McClurg willsher good grades to anyone who is willing to study for them. Judy Davis wills her petite figure to Leila Ammon. Vernon Garwood wills his ambition and self-control to Jim Spann. Alicia Strate wills her front false tooth to Mary Smith in case she loses hers. Lee Gorball wills his eighth period slips to anyone with a lot of time on their hands. Judy Stewart wills the circles under her eyes -- natural ones, of course -- to Joyce Anderson. Betty Strelow wills her always ready smile to Judy Lanz, Stanley Anders wills his yellar run-over, unpolished cowboy boots to Janet Hutton, so she will be able to hear their familiar sound, long after he's gone. Betty Jo Kapperman wills her position on the annual staff to Judy Bussinger, that she might put her literary talents to work. Larry Heyne wills his -- knight -- night -- life to Glenn Miller. Brad Alderman wills his nickname Bones to Jerry Maurer. Deanna Minnig wills her shy, quiet, and sweet ways to Kay Cross. Flo Brown wills her first hour in the llbrary to anyone who is wide aiough awake to read or remember the alphabet. Lois Lund wills her pickup to Connie Barrow, that she will no longer have to walk. Marilyn Phillips wills her wiggle and giggle to Irene Nolles. Jack Johnson will.s his athletic ability to Bill Brown. Butch Morton wills his howling little monster to some dedicated spinster. LeRoy Opfer wills his baritone sax to anyone who is willing to carry it, Bonnie Utter wills her engagement ring to anyone who thinks they could get it off her finger. Lorraine McKinney wills her volleyball ability to Gordon Trousdale. Leo ithe lion-hearted -- alias, the woman killer -- alias, Romeo -- alias, oh well, that's enough for nowy wills all this to George Leuhrs. SENIOR PROPHECY The Time: 1977 The Place: R. C. Heights What's that weird solmd that the fair citizens of the city of Bassett hear? Why it's the class of 1957 coming in on the rocket ship XZ57. They landed at the Rocket Space Fort on R. C. Heights. The first one off the ship for the class reunion is Brad Alias Bones alias Badly Bradly Alderman. Well, what's the matter with poor ole Brad? Oh, Iguess he just had another accident. He slipped out of the space ship and hung suspended by the skin of his teeth until Tiny Reynolds finally came to his rescue. Anley Standers-oh- I-mean -- Stanley Anders is next. He's still wearing those yellar cowboy boots, his curley, although rather thin hair, has been transformed into a flat-top. My, who is this raving beauty emerging? Why it's Flo Brown! They tell me Flo has been supervising a nursery school, but she certainly doesn't seem to have any gray hairs over it. Now who are these four tiny children emerging! There certainly must be a misfit someplace. This is a chartered ship for only '57 Seniors. Why am I seeing correctly? Judy is one of them! Oh, so those are the Johnson triplets. My she must be a proud mother! Oh, and here comes a gray headed old man, but you can't mistake that build, it must be Jack. And so, we've taken care of the Johnson family.. Bertha DeVal1 has seriously taken up wrestling. She got so much practice at the Senior play rehearsals that she decided to make it her profession, She really rnan-handles that husband of hers. There seems to be a pause in the line-up, oh, here he comes -- Vernon Garwood, late as usual. He's even slowed Joan down, they are raising some very intelligent doctors and social workers. My the breeze has come up! Oh, it's just Lee Gorball flying by in his diamond studded Cadillac. They tell me Lee has really profited from being a confirmed bachelor. All the rich old maids are still offering him millions to put them out of their misery. Larry Heyne didn't need to hop aboard the rocket ship. He just hitch-hiked up from Stuart. His old '54 Yellow Chevy finally gave up a.nd he just decided to settle down there in Stuart, as Shirley was Ready, Betty Kapperman Marcellus has come up the hill from the Chevy garage. She is secretary to her dear hubby. She seems to lead a contented life and is prompting her children how to get along in the old R.C.H.S., as well as she did, Another career girl emerges from out of the rocket. Lois Lund is the very capable private secretary to a rich Wall Street tycoon. lncidentally, his name is Wallingford Wellington Wells, J r., girls. According to Lois he isn't an old buzzard, either! From California and U.C.L.A. oomes our college commercial teacher, Bob Mattern. He followed the old slogan Go west young man, go west. Lorraine McKinney gave up the profession of secretary and is now coaching her own profes- sional volleyball team. Che of her star players is Klondike Nell alias Alicia Strate. Deanna Minnig is teaching little native childreninSouth Africa. On her days off she becomes a Big White Hunter. When we wrote her of the reunion her answering telegram stated: Bongol Bongo! I don't want to leave the Congo! Butch Morton has gone into the movie producing business. His latest movie is another of the series Gunsmoke, This one is entitled Matt Morton Rides Again. LeRoy Opfer, who comes next, is very proud of his special rocket as he was chief engineer on the building of it. He got his start at Arnholt's Service Station. Mademoiselle Marilynski Phillipski, the former Marilyn Phillips, flew all the way from Stalinski, Siberia where she is American Ambassador. She is including in this trip her annual Good Will Tour. Mervin, Marvin, Tiny Reynolds comes limping off next. He threw such a wicked shot at his last crap game in Las Vegas that the table broke his leg. He quit trucking for his Dad and took up gambling because he thought there would be more of a future in gambling. And now Jed and Joyce Robertson. My what a cute couple. They are happy out on the home- stead raising Future Farmers. Larry and Judy Sanger look a little out of place in their Alaskan furs. Larry drives dog sleds, you know, St. Bernards with kegs arotmd their necks, for a living while Judy stays home, cooks her Eskimo pies and keeps the igloo warm. Why, here comes dear Betty Strelow, the world-famous beautician. Her motto is A swirl, a curl, and look like a pearl. She's promised all the women a free demonstration. Bonnie Utteriyes, Isaid Utterly and DuWayneThompson now emerge. She has her engagement ring polished every six months. Bonnie has advanced in the capital and is now private secretary to the governor. Duwayne has advanced at Boeing's Aircraft in Witchata, too. He made his own private jet to go to Lincoln to see Bonnie more often. Now emerging from the rocket ship are Mr. and Mrs. Leo Vawser. Ruth finally tamed Leo down. They're living in Los Angeles where Leo plays football with the Rams. On days when he's not practicing or playing you will see him on crutches. That's what football does for ya! he says. Marlene Thurlow, the glamorous secretary to Mrs. Brown, the local welfare director walks in now. She gave up Jerry and is now writing a book called HOW TO BE A SPINSTER AND LIKE IT. Her last book was WHERE TO MEET ELIGIBLE BACHELORS. It was not a success. Q16 of the biggest events of the year was the sponsoring of the homecoming parade and dance, which took a lot of preparation and thought by all. CONFERENCE CHAMPS LEFT TO RIGHT: Betty, Adah Neubauer, Coach, Ruth, Kathy, Marcia, Alicia, Bertha, Cam, J anis, Lynda, Lorraine, Deanna, SEATED: LaDeane, Kay, Judy, Darlene, Beth, Bonnie, and Cheryle. The volleyball team, coached by Miss Adah Neubauer, was again the undefeated Conference Champs of 57. They played outstanding volleyball and were always full of pep and everlasting enthusiasm. A special recognition goes to the three seniors -- Deanna, Alicia, and Lorraine, who will be leaving the squad. Their places will bedifficult to fill, as those McKenney and Strate spikes were hard and fast, making it difficult for the opposing team to recover the ball. The team and coach extmd best wishes to three fine Tigerettes. May they never forget the team's slogan, we can, we can, we know we can, when the going gets rough in life. The following girls have earned letters for the number of years indicated after their names: Lorraine 4, Alicia 3, Deanna 1, LaDeane 3, Cheryle 3, Janis 2, Bertha 2, Kathy 1, Judy 1, Bomiie 1, Darlene lg Betty 1, Ruth 1, Cam 1, and Lynda 1, SEA SON'S RECORD First place in Stuart Invitational Tournament Tigerettes 37 Stuart 20 Tigerettes 38 Long Pine 23 Tigerettes 32 Valentine 22 Tigerettes 38 Valentine 19 Tigerettes 56 Ainsworth 19 Tigerettes 35 Atkinson 26 Tigerettes 69 Springview 14 Tigerettes 63 Springview 13 Tiger-enes 48 O' Neil 16 Qi - H F if ,.-- : N sr Y 4' 2 5, iw, CW f' ,,., E 3 5 ' -.
