The drum line dings around before performing in a school as- sembly. Halfway through the Homecoming Parade, the band marches on in step and with pride. Long practices in late summer and cold early morning practices helped this year ' s marching band have an- other successful season. With a cre- ative field show and the hard work of the band members, the marching band placed in all the contests it attended. It placed third at Washington, took first at Francis Howell, and came in second at the Greater St. Louis competition at Busch Stadium, only one point from first place. The drum line placed first in all three contests, continuing the tradition of ex- cellence set by percussionists in past years. The drum line spent many hours before and after school perfecting their percussion feature, composed by band director Rich Hadfield and former RB drum line member, Ted Gaines. For the most part, we (the drum line) knew we could do it. We knew we had it in us. but we just had to work at it, says Charley Waddill of the drum line. Summing up the marching band sea- son, Julie Wagner says, Marching band brought us closer together. We (band members) became friends at the beginning of the year and now we ' re J comfortable around each other. S ! l».«r.-». ' ' -- l '
