Junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders can always be seen boost- ing school spirit at sports events, but it isn ' t as easy as it looks. Hours of practice go into learning new cheers and working as a group. In the summer our cheerleaders go to MG Cheerleading Camp for two weeks. Here, they learn new cheers and experiment with cheers of their own. For the past two years the Bruin cheerleaders have won the Key to the Spirit, the highest honor bestowed to cheerleaders at this camp, and this past summer they placed third for overall cheering. We worked hard but had a lot of fun and had many new exper- iences, said Lisa Montgomery, JV captain. Lisa McKee, varsity cap- tain, added, We all get along and things went well. Cheerleaders learn to work as a team, not unlike the one out on the field or on the court, and form a sense of unity between the crowd and the team. On a closing note, Titia White, JV cheerleader, commented about the sterotypical cheerleader. Not all of the cheerleaders are blond bombshells. In fact, this year we have three brunettes. I.
