Despite the 3-13 record, the volleyball team made their season successful in other ways. One of these was the optimistic outlook that was maintained by the squad. Generally, the attitude re- mained positive throughout the season, said Coach Reimler. The girls ' endeavors may not have been rewarded by a winning season, but Coach Reimler says that, there were games when we gave supreme effort. The record did not properly do justice to the amount of tal- ent on the team. Says Coach Reimler, There was a lot of potential on this year ' s squad. Left page, clockwise. The long, everyday practices really paid off when the team advanced to the state semifinals. The year went pretty much as ex- pected according to the coaches; with a 16-8-1 record. Coach Lewis said that, ... the strength of the team is that they function well as a team. They are all good athletes. Coach Pitchford commented, Over the course of the year we ' ve developed and become more cohe- sive as a team. They are a good defensive team and have broken many records. During the season the team played Hickman twice; the first game a tie in double overtime, and the second a 1-0 loss. In the semi-finals against Penbroke Hills RB fell just short of advancing to the final game of the state championships. After a no score and four overtimes, each team was given 5 penalty shots. RB converted 3 shots to score, but Pen- broke Hills turned four, winning the game 4-3. The soccer team was the first from RB to ad- vance this far in the State finals.
