BASEBALL The Bruin baseball team finished the year with a 13-7 record. Highlights of the season included Dave Jack- son recording 20 strikeouts against a state qualifier. New Bloomfield, and accu- mulating a 0.8 ERA for the season. Mark Cecil set the single season stolen base record by swiping 17 bases in 18 attempts. Coach Dan Wright said that the season had its ups and downs. The team had high expectations coming into their post-sea- son play but lost in the first game at districts to Jeffer- son City, 3-1. This season was kinda like Halley ' s Comet, Coach Wright said. It came in with anticipa- tion and then just faded away. j i m

Mary Jane Landhuls. Becky Cedar. Heather Hanly. Sheri Willis. Margaret Bentlage. Susan Settergen. Brenda Pollreisz. This was a memorable season for the Rock Bridge girl ' s Swimming Team. They started off the season with a big splash beating McCluer North in an unexpected, but thrilling victory. With much improvement the team ' s final record was 5-8. an enormous improvement from pre vious years. Because the girls had to share the pool with Hickman, every other day the team members would rise at 5:15 for practice, but everyone agrees that it was worth the hard work. The swim team had a new coach this year. John Hamilton. With a lot of help from his wife. Linda, and assistant coaches Amy Baier and John (Jhlig. he was able to not only improve the swimming, but also raise the confidence of the girls. Several of the team members came close to qualify for the State Swimming Championships. Freshman. Becky Ceder qualified for State in the I meter diving. Judy Boyer diving off the starting block.
