Working is a part of life for a large percentage of students at Rock Bridge. During school through C.O.E., in the after- noons and evenings, and on the weekends, working students can be found in businesses all over Columbia. Employers include fast-food and traditional restaurants, clothing and other retail stores, supermarkets, and many other types of businesses. Henage entered his first year at Rock Bridge with what the press called a young inexperienced team pre- dicted to win no more than four games. But with team- work, effort and a conditioning program initiated by Henage, the '77 Bruins captured the first game of the season, a 15-14 win over St. Louis Chaminade in 90- degree heat. That win set the pace for the year as the Bruins ended the season with a 10-0-2 record and the AAA State Championship. Cam- denton put out a valiant effort but as they had all year the Bruins held on to win. The Bruins were able to get a chance for the title by defeating McKinley 20-6, and Jackson 20-13, in the quarter and semi-final rounds. 5. at 4 N 16 W C ?, iv, ex ' 1 I 0, I , W IL, 2' U W 5 ,f Effort: The Key Word in Bruins, Drive for Title la. Not only did the rain and unseasonably cold weather cause the cancellation of seven of their 22 games, but it also prevented the team from practicing. The team had the potential to be much better than their 6-9 record, as was shown when three of its players were honored with all-district recognition. Senior Terry Whitney was named to the second team. Seniors Mike Hall, who led the team in steals C20 out of 20 stolen basesj, and Hobie Crane, who led the team in batting C4361 and in RBI,s C155 were given honorable mention. One bright spot in the season was in the installation of bat girls for the first time. Looking forward to next year, the J .V. team which compiled a 12-l record this year, will move up to varsity. The theme chosen for the setting was, Hollywood '78. The red carpet was rolled out as the seniors and their dates made their way into Lela Raney Wood Ballroom on the Stephens College Campus, they found themselves amid shining lights, movie posters, and a giant mirrored ball. During a break from dancing they went into the Hollywood Cafe where refreshments were served. The prom was a highlight of the year for the outgoing seniors as they danced from nine o'clock to one o'clock and it was obvious -they could have danced all night! 1 - - - ' fl Q E V 'j' P Senior Picnic ,,.T2 ' ww -.wfQ...m...r...,.-..4,4,-,W Ya .wx ,. ,.h,h,f ,, mm. -.ww -Q.. At seven o'clock Wednesday June 7, 1978, a capacity crowd in Rock Bridge High School Gymnasium saw 297 graduates receive their diplomas. The seniors marched in to the processional and sat down forming a green field of caps and gowns. Dr. Walter Daniels, Vice Chancellor of the University of Missouri, gave a poignant commencement address. During the presentation of diplomas something very unexpected happened. A storm caused a power outage, thus enveloping the gymnasium in darkness. Lights or no lights they proceeded with the ceremony presenting the remaining 45 graduates who were awaiting their diplomas. It brought a fitting close to a very emotional and spirited senior week as the class of '78 was leaving its green and gold alma mater. ii 152 rig. A . ve A , , wif-Q . . .
