This was a busy, active year . . . the Year ,X of the Change . . . new activities, new facilities, The big change was, of course the new building. We felt the advantages of private classrooms and pleasant surroundings. We tried new activities, such as iumping on the trampoline and participating in debate. We participated in intra-mural sports. There are many events to remember . . . the pep assemblies with the always lively skits . . . the ball games, such as the thriller-diller with Oakville . . . skating parties and dances . . . the Girls' League slumber party where no one slept . . . the Variety Show we worked so hard for . . . Fun Week, when we alternated between looking like hobos, little kids, and clashing clothes . . . plays and concerts . . . the disastrous FathervDaughter Dessert when a silver thaw and power outage really gummed up the works . , . the unexpected vacation when bad roads forced the schools to close. But more than these, we'll remember the daily companionship with each other, the day- in-and-dayaout routine of school to ed o 5 g . DP C4 ' casionally with an exam . . . L We saw the birth of a new project, to light J the athletic field. We worked, and the alumni . 5, worked, sponsoring dances, ball games, sending ' Il. 5 out letters . . . LX lt was a good year . . . .I .'l . O: t Q . Whenever we needed a picture, , ' '. ' whether it was at a ball game, play, program, or just during the day, ' ' '- Jay was always ready and willing to do the job. Administration Writing a farewell message to you, the seniors, is always an occasion for mixed emotions, PRIDE in having had a part in guiding your education to graduation. REGRET that your familiar faces and voices will be gone from our school. HOPE that you will become the future leaders that you can be. ANXIETY that we have had the wisdom to give you proper guidance and counsel FAITH that you will continue to help yourself along the road to success. CURIOSITY to know what only time can reveal-as to how well we have worked together as a team. With all these emotions, and more, I sincerely congratulate you on having successfully opened another gate on the roadway to the future and hope that we have provided you the keys to the others you will meet. JOHN H. STEVENS, Superintendent L L ,vc,,, As the school year draws to a close it is time to bid farewell to another group of seniors. During the past years at Rochester High you members of the class of I957 have gone to school in the old building, spent two years in make-shift quarters, and spent this final year in a new building. While the physical facilities have been varied, the primary function of the school-to provide you with the best possible education-has remained the same. We hope that you have taken full advantage of the opportunities afforded you, and that you will put the knowledge you have gained to good use. At first we little freshmen, as the upperclassmen put it, weren't noticed because everyone including us, was admiring the new school. After the school had been thoroughly examined by everyone, the upperclassmen started making cracks such as Say, sonny, the -grade school is down the street, etc. The class officers were President, Dollene Weiks, Vice President, Anne Whittaker, Secretary, Judy Dewing, and Treasurer, James Johnson. The class representatives were Mike Boring and Virginia Bundy. Miss Christopher and Mr. Brown were the advisers. The freshmen class sponsored a sock dance on Jan- uary I8, after a basketball game, which was quite suc- cessful and everyone had a lot of fun, One of our main projects was our pennies for lights drive which was held in order to raise money for lights for the football field. Also we sponsored a clean-up campaign in the fall to keep our school grounds clean. Perhaps as freshmen who are going to graduate in I96O iwe hope? we will be the only class ever to say we were the first class to go clear through the new high school. taker, Mike Boring, Virginia Bundy. 'Umm cvnJ2f,,,t mafscne This section is dedicated to the championship baseball team of 1956, Last year the exuberant Warriors brought home a shining new trophy, pro- claiming them the Lewis County League Champions. The Warriors lost their first league game, but from then on they rolled over all opposition to win the Northern Division. Then they defeated Pe Ell, winner of the Western Division, for the right to play Toledo for the championship, ln the exciting playoff, the Warriors defeated the lndianskby the score of 3 to l, in a game played at Millet Field in Chehalis. lt was a well balanced team that Coach Clyde Brown brought through to the championship. Pitcher Ivan Crews, who was to die so tragically less than two months later, showed excellent control of a fast ball which kept the opposition's score to one or two runs a game. Veteran infielders, Daniels and Marks, hit well, and teamed with VVharton and Darling to make a very tight infield, Ralph Strong's catching was adequate and Doug Haskin contributed good fielding as well as power at the plate. Others who saw considerable action were Ken Anderson, Larry Futter, Mel Fabick, Walt Elgin, Roger Palmer, and Dick Slaymaker. ,... .- -----..,. C '4h! ' A-7 - ,...,, 'Mr' .. DESIRE 'I' THE PRICE + GROUP EFFORT 1 SUCCESS Athletics at Rochester are constantly improving. The school spirit, the size of the turnouts for football, basketball, and baseball, the attitude of the individual athletes on these squads, the desire of these athletes to pay the price for success and the continued development of these attitudes cannot but insure suc- cess for our athletic program. We expect members of our athletic squads to be good citizens about school and in the community. A member of an athletic team is in the public eye. He is in a position of influence. lt is his duty to be a good example to other students, and a credit to his school. Fifteen lettermen and thirty other fellows turned out for the sport. This alone shows that the students have a tremen- dous interest in football. To start the season off, the Warriors trounced the Banks, Oregon team. Then they marched through an eight game league Schedule, winning five and losing three. As signi- ficant a league record as this landed the Warriors the third place spot in the final league standings, Graduation will not more than dent the Warrior squad as only four players will be lost. This will leave fourteen returning lettermen. Rochester Banks, Oregon Rochester Mossyrock .... Rochester Toledo .,..,. Rochester Morton .... Rochester Onalaska .,..
