These dreamers dreamed of a people who would govern themselves-free to decide their own fate. I For l8O years this dream has worked-worked only because wise decisions were made by a free people-an educated people. Your l2 years of public education-paid for by the people of Rochester and of Washington-has given you-not as a gift -but as an investment in your future decisions. We hope you will prove we have made a wise investment- that you will repay to the future students your own faith and support--and that you too will dream great dreams. JOHN B. STEVENS, Superintendent MRS. WAGNESS Office Assistant To the seniors l extend congratulations for a job well done. You have carried the brunt of the task of leadership during a most difficult time at Rochester. The pleasure of going to school in the new building will go to the classes that follow you. As so often happens, those who are most deserving do not have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labor. l hope that you will face all the challenges of life with the same fortitude you have displayed during the past 2 years. Those of us that remain behind are proud of you and the iob that you have done. I wish you every success in whatever endeavor you now undertake. LOREN D. Early in February a new idea was intro- duced in the form of a Father-Daughter Party , where the fathers and daughters attended a des- sert luncheon program. The traditional Sweet- heart Tolo was attended and enjoyed by many Rochester students. To bring the busy year to a close the mothers were honored at the Mothers Tea in April. The chorus presented successful performances at the Christmas Concert in December and at the Spring Concert in May. The chorus contest in llwaco was entered with favorable results. To entertain our neighboring schools, the chorus presented exchange programs in Tenino and Oakville. Rochester's instrument-toting Warriors whooped their way through numerous activities in l9S5- l956. Sometimes small in number and sometimes large, they made Rochester proud from the open- ing strains of the Star Spangled Banner at the first football game through the closing bars of the recessional at Graduation. Other stops along their war-path were between acts entertainment at the Senior Play and peppy music for the home basketball games. Surviving a power failure, the band presented an exceptional part of the Christmas Concert. The trip to the band contest in llwaco in April proved to be the longest excursion of these musical Warriors. Exchanges with Tenino and Oak- ville marked interesting performances for our neighboring schools. The Spring Concert brou ht the Q band of musical Warriors to their last big performance. 1 titils ce. FOOTBALL From the league record it might be said that Rochester did not have a very successful season, but this was not the case. The Warrior gridders played respectable games against some of the best teams in the state. They never were to be considered an easy team to be beaten by anyone. Also, the Rochester team received its full measure of playing football, such as physical condition and co- ordination, and poise, and the learning of good sportsmanship. The season came to a climax with the I8-Zl loss to Tenino-a very exciting game. There is large chance that next season will see Rochester High near the top of the league. for there will be 25 returning Iettermen, only 5 starting Seniors being lost. A look at the facilities available for Girls' Sports would make one think that the activities would be very limited, but due to the girls' enthusiasm this was not the case. A volleyball tournament was held. Playdays were attended in Olympia, Centralia, Hoquiam, Vancouver and other schools. The five girls that attended each playday participated in volleyball, basketball and swimming. Trips were made to Chehalis both in fall and in the spring for bowling. The swimmers splashed and dove in the Y pool in Olympia. After school on four home-game nights, Rochester High's girl basketball play- ers traveled to Maple Lane Gym. Next year, in our new gym, the Girls' Sports program will be even more active. Participation in the preceding activities helped several girls to earn letters and chevrons.
