N ewly formed, Y-teen membership consisted of ninth grade girls. These girls were very active under the sponsorship of Miss Leuhm. 'l'heir first meeting was highlighted by a hairdresser, Gretchen Hillard from Beaver. She talked to the girls on the styling of hair and applications of makeup. The next event was a swimming party: to get money for this, they sponsored a car wash at Bittner's Service Station. At Christmas, the girls held a formal at Southside Firehall, in addition to filling Christmas stockings for the children at McGuire Home. A bake sale at K-Mart provided funds for a lollipop tree to send to the Children's Ward at Rochester Hospital. One of their big projects involved dressing babydolls. Taking old babydolls from the Salvation Army, each girl made two outfits for it, then returned it to the Salvation Army for distribution. At the end of football season, Y-teens sponsored a victory dance in honor of the team. Though ninth graders, the girls contributed much to the schoo1's program and answered the question that has so long plagued the underclassmen: What can we do? Congratulations, girls! 1 13
