O' '99 film , I i' 4, W if 571, in J student life A N Fun, confusion keynote start of campus life For most everyone on campus, the first few weeks proved the most confusing. Yet, they contained so much activity, no one really had time to worry about the confusion. Of course, moving in was an experience in itself. Sophomores found few problems, but freshman ran around screaming in despair because they could not find room for everything. Things finally calmed down with the help of a student mixer, where JoAnn McKinnon and others provided an evening of entertainment. A freshman-sophomore powderpuff game, the Faculty Reception, and Robert's homecoming added to make the first weeks at M.C.C. Worth coming for. CONFUSION seems to fill the campus of M.C.C. as everyone moves in the first day. Q ,i 'ire Incoming frosh become slaves to sophomores Painting faces, hugging trees, and embarrassing teachers made up just a few of the many crazy things sophomores commanded the ulowly, lousy freshmen from M.C.C. to do during the two days of freshman initiation. Freshmen sang the famed initiation song while gloating sophomores beamed with pleasure, remembering when they had sung that same song only a year earlier. To make up for all the rotten deeds they made the freshmen do, a group of sophomores served all the participating freshmen an elegant candlelight dinner on the last night. 1 , 'M R ,Q ,,. Friends and neighbors learned to get along with others through devotions, talking, and sharing. They developed a family closeness ahnost like the real thing. Dorm life meant talking to friends until three in the morning and disciplining oneself to study. Necessary evils like cleaning and washing clothes helped finish the days. Despite its trials, dorm life was an enjoyment, an experience that could never be replaced. DRYERS provided in the dorm make laundering easier for Sandy Mosley. 20 Q, .ff --- 'K i . 5' If . P9 K. Trolls, witches come together for Halloween Mummies, ghosts, witches, and hoodlums comprised just a segment of the mad conglomeration that gathered in the transformed chapel area to celebrate Halloween. Upon arriving, everyone wandered around attempting to guess who hid beneath the other disguises. Honors fell on those with the most original costumes. First place went to Jan Green, the witch no one knew. Passing lifesavers with toothpicks and an exciting game of Wink-em brought a little extra excitement to the evening. And what Halloween night would be complete without a spooky movie? Nights of Darkness served this purpose and ended the evening with a scream. MOUTH wide open, Jan Reevers expresses her distaste for monster Cayge Martin. 23 Six foot Pooka makes visit to MCC stage November 9, 10, and ll saw the presentation of Margaret Chasels comedy Harvey', by the M.C.C. Players. The main characters were Elwood P. Dowd, a very unusual man, and Harvey, his best friend, an invisible six-foot rabbit. Success of the play was due to many people's backing. Nearly one-fourth of the student body worked on set construction and the cast spent innumerable hours rehearsing. Patti Martens as student director did much to help Mr. Jurney, who, as usual, gave most of his time being director-producer-boss. The Cheerleaders and Warriorettes worked very hard to make homecoming a remembrance, and in the minds of those present, they accomplished their goal. 'MC' Routine activity typifies typical day on campus From the time a student opened his eyes in the morning until he closed them at night, he actively engaged in many things. Much of it became routine, but even in the routine he found relaxation. If one unfortunately had early morning classes, he may have even gotten up for breakfast. Those participating in that feast were few. If not breakfast, chapel served as his first awakening to the world. After chapel the masses proceeded to the mailbox, receiving letters from friends or campus junk mail . Classes followed all day with only time out for lunch. In the afternoon and evening, studying and campus activities filled the time until curfew. Calling for a small cast and very few props, the musical centered around two fathers trying to unite their son and daughter through a scheme of reverse psychology. A unique aspect of this production was a double cast for the female parts. The production was climaxed by taking the cast and crew on tour, a first for the M.C.C. theatre. Although tired and rushed, the cast performed marvelously before an enthusiastic and receptive audience at Great Lakes Christian College in Beamsville, Ontario. Dean!'Regisfrar duties assumed by Chancellor Highly respected by students for his dedication, Chancellor E. Lucien Palmer has completed fifteen years of service with Michigan Christian College. Working long hours in his office and making necessary business trips, Chancellor Palmer was not often seen by the majority of the students. His closest contact with students came through teaching the State and Local Government class, and his occasional substitutions for President Gardner in daily chapel programs. With the departure of Mr. Ralph Burris in January, Chancellor Palmer added to his duties those of the Registrar, which included the oversight of all academic records. CHANCELLOR Palmer shares a little humor with a faculty member. Ohio camp trap highlights year for A Cappella Though only in existence for a short time, the A Cappella Chorus accomplished many things. The year really began with a weekend chorus camp at Fort Hill Christian Youth Camp in Southem Ohio. Hours of rehearsals were occasionally disrupted for times of entertainment and relaxation. Besides preparing the chorus for its first performance, the weekend served as a time for chorus members to become acquainted with each other. A Cappella members became aware of the necessity of these rehearsals when the chorus made its official debut at the 1972 Annual M.C.C. Fall Lectureships. Due to a late start, and the introduction of a new editor and a new sponsor, the yearbook was subjected to a late delivery, which enabled it to include many activities which past yearbooks had found necessary to leave out. This, along with a unique cover, and the use of color in the introduction added a new dimension and a bit of spice to the overall publication.
