ff' f I -.su-ng' ff lgfxmxl , 7 , I, ,ff X-N- f X .lf -VD reefingd: I am the Totem Pole. I know, hear, and see all. I have watch- ed men at work. I have seen trees falling, a building erected, and a college begun. In the course of this year I have seen faculty and students arriving and making themselves at ho-me. I have seen students boat-riding, snow-balling, ice-skating, apple-bobbing, picnicing at the bar-b-que pit, and walking to chapel. I have seen students and faculty playing, working, and worshipping together. I have seen the faculty give special attention to students in need of help. I have seen them assume extra duties and responsibilities beyond and above the call of duty. I have heard the students as they went to their classes, while they were in the basketball court, when they were in the do-r1ni- tories, or batting the ball on the ping-pong table. I have heard their plans laid as they began to work for a Christmas banquet, 0peration 10 , The North Star, Radio Station VVNCC, a Valen- tine party, and many other functions. I have heard the faculty speak of studies, examinations, and grades. I have heard them as they made chapel talks, offered suggestions, and counseled with students. I know the pioneer spirit which has pervaded the atmospllere of North Central Christian College. I know of the long hours and hard work performed by the Board of Directors, Administra- tion, and Faculty. I know the works, the interests, and the longings of the students. l know the visions, hopes, dreams, and aspirations of the people who have walked on my camp site. All this I wish to share with you. My staff is happy to present my first observations on the pages which fo-llow. is 1 I3 2 . galil? Leonard Blake, Chairman, Operation 10 CHRISTMAS OCTET Left to right: Linda Kincade and Martha Phelps, altosg Dona Mai Bruce and Sylvia Eisenmann, sopranosg James Hall and Pete Cox, tenorsg and Leonard Blake and Rodney Grantham, basses. This group, accompanied by Professor Waggoner, made an eight day tour during the Christmas vacation. They made appearances in behalf of the college and OPERATION 10 in Rockford, Chicago, and Ur- bana, Illinoisg Noblesville, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis, Indiana: and St. Louis, Missouri. PER Christmas Octet F95 Tl1e student body of North Central Christian College launch- ed probably the biggest project ever undertaken by a student body of a Christian college. Plans and procedures for OPERA- TION IO were presented to the student body on December 15, 1959, at the Christmas Banquet. OPERATION 10 is a student project designated to assemble the funds necessary to build a planned 2132003300 dormitory build- ing. North Central Christian College will have to have this new building ready for use next fall if it expects to accept the large increase in enrollment indicated by incoming applications. The Student Council took the suggestion of Leonard Blake and planned this campaign. A committee. co-nsisting of Leonard Blake, Chairman, Betty Cross, Susan Sturdivant, James Hall, and Larry Leslie was selected to plan and guide OPERATION 10. All students of NCCC were eligible to compete for prizes in a participation contest being run in conjunction with OPERA- TION l0. The administration of NCCC offered an unlimited number of very worth-while prizes for this contest. To the stu- dent responsible for the largest total contribution, a one-year, full-tuition scholarship will be awarded. North Central Christian College entered in local activities during t'he Christmas season by building a float for the Rochester Annual Christmas Parade. Under the direction of Miss Eva Thompson, the student body constructed a large sleigh, the body of which was gold, the runners and trimming in white, and NCCC. in white against the gold background. The efforts of the students were amply rewarded as the school was presented a trophy of Honorable Mention by the city of Roches ter. .KW wtunmx Directors of Operation 10 .SZAOJ COA,-A Settlng lol th 21 tldCl1l11OI'1 should always be done Wlth much czuelul thought and work In ordel to nmke sure that evel yone h ld a volce 111 ClLCld1IllT the school colors of N01 th Central Cl1l1SIld1l College, a contest was set IH order Each student wlote '1 theme on the color comblnatlon he deemed Slllliablf.
