She carries the supersonic TARTAR hom- es roye ing missile capable of destroying high speed aircraft before they become a threat to the ship. For close-in and anti-aircraft engage- ments two 5-inch 54 dual purpose guns similar to those carried by a World War II destroyer are carried but with greater range and accuracy. To deal with the Submarine threat ROBISON ' ' ' ' ' h th abilit carries ASROC, rocket delivered torpedo, giving er e y to engage submarines outside of their lethal torpedo range. For close-in submarine work she has two three-tube torpedo laun- chers. ROBISON has made 14 extended deployments to the Far East, including providing gunfire support for U.S. and South Vi- etnamese forces and in combat situations against the enemy all along the Vietnamese coastline. ROBISON also fired in excess ol' 16,000 rounds in more than 100 strike attacks against North Vietnamese targets during the conflict. ln more recent deploy- ments. ROBISON in the spring of 1983 participated in the larg- est fleet operation in the Northern Pacific since WWII and escor- ted USS NEW JERSEY QBB-625 from the Western Pacific to Central America for contingency operations in the summer of 1983. ROBISON completed a highly successful tour to the Per- sian Gulf in 1985, where she functioned for over 80 days as the Anti-Air Warfare Commander for U.S. forces in that volatile area. On the occasion of ROB-ISON's 25th Anniversary of comissioned service the ship once again is deployed in support of national in- terest in the Persian Gulf area. We are the crew of ROBISON and together work to be ready always to perform any assigned mission. Without us ROBISON is just a lifeless machine. With us she becomes a warship of enor- mous power and capability, available to defend and protect our country and its interests throughout the world. Our ship is no bet- ter than the quality of work and level of skill we give her. We dedi- cate ourselves to this ship to fulfill the trust and the responsibility t.hat has been given to us. May we always continue to set the standard of excellence and be prepared to respond to any chal- lenge when it arises.
