FRO THE COMMA DI G OFFICER This cruise book covers the highlights of USS ROBIS ON 's eighth deployment to the Western Pacific. The storybook of pictures serves as a link in the long chain of such experiences for this ship. Within two years of her commissioning she was pressed into duty as a unit of the Seventh Fleet in support of operations off the coast of Vietnam. Over the the thirteen years of her active duty she was to see much such action which is formally recognized by the receipt of nine battle efficiency awards plus the Navy Unit Commendation and Meritorious Unit Citation. While this ship is primarily an envelope of steel that houses miles of cablingg hundreds of rounds of am- munitiong potent anti-submarine and anti-air missilesg data processing computersg space age electronic equip- mentg and the gigantic boilers and turbines which power her across the endless tracts of ocean, she also has a being. The Lucky Twelve's personality is the manifested combination of all those who have served on her and whose skill and daring have made her the proud lady that she is. It has been my distinct pleasure to have com- manded ROBISON during the past two years, including the period commemorated in these pages. I dedicate this cruisebook to the officers, petty officers and crew who made the successful completion of this deployment possible. Best wishes to you and your loved ones in all the years to come.
