THE CLASS OF ’73 —SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN Rudely uprooted as rising juniors from Woodson, Oakton, and West Springfield high schools, Robinson’s first graduating class found itself faced with an adjustment of major proportions. Conversations among last year’s juniors revealed their apprehension at the sub-school system, being housed with 7th and 8th graders, and the loss of close school friends. The majority accepted the new situation with minor grumbles and was soon involved in the building of the Robin¬ son image through academic and extra-curricular pursuits. The minority, however, never ceased grumbling and took little or no advantage of the opportunities Robinson offered, though they seemed to enjoy the personal freedom and liberties af¬ forded them. By attending mixed grade-level classes and multi-grade social events, seniors proved themselves tolerant of change and flexible in their attitudes. They came to realize that Robinson’s unique blend of individuals and wide-ranging academic programs were largely a result of their pioneer involvement with the Robinson idea. 219
