Glenn Matteson Coach Makowka, Gregg Spaete SWIM TEAM Participating in its first year as a varsity sport, the swim team was composed of a nucleus of upperclassmen supported by a strong ninth and tenth grade contingent. Competing in Division II of the Northern Virginia High School Swim League, the team compiled a 4-1 record, losing to eventual champion Woodson. The high point of the successful season was the winning of the Relay Carnival, in which the ex¬ treme depth of the team was indicated as it outdistanced its nearest rival by 45 points. The tea m finished third in individual championships and, through the efforts of Karen Vahouny, first in the girls in¬ vitational diving championship. High point winners were Mike Wilds and Susan Boyd. 188
