BLOOD, SWEAT, TEARS The ‘jocks’, Susie Rah-rahs — you hear it often from their detractors, who usually have an aversion to physical exercise or who didn t make the team. Robinson’s coaches, athletes, and cheerleaders are a source of pride to the school, particularly since they have accomplished so much in the two years since the school opened. Opponents soon learned that this new school was not going to be ‘easy pickings’. A look at the team records for all sports will confirm this. Above and Beyond salutes all participants in the athletic program for their effort, dedication, and the recognition and admiration they earn for the school. FALL AND WINTER SPORTS Varsity . VARSITY FOOTBALL John Mares eyes another fallen Jaguar. Robinson inches forward for another first down The Madison stands overflowed with spirited Robinson fans for the opening game of Robinson’s first varsity season. The Rams fought hard, and ran and hit well, but a few mistakes and some bad breaks cost them the game. Madison es¬ tablished a 6-0 lead during the first quarter and scored again before half time. The Rams’ defense came on strong in the second half. Through team effort, Mike Chamberlin was afforded the honor of scoring the first touchdown in Robinson’s varsity football history. The season’s second game saw the Rams facing some of their old team¬ mates from Oakton High. Oakton’s ex¬ perience dominated, netting them a 32-7 win. The efforts of Monroe and an in¬ terception by Spaete pleased Robinson fans. The first home game under new field lights gave Rams backers something to shout about. Falls Church bowed to strong defensive efforts, and to the ex¬ ceptional offensive play of Gardner and Chamberlin. The Rams joined other district teams in bowing to powerful Fairfax 37-0.
