After many years of service to Robinson, Mr. Stuart is retiring. He has served as more than a history teacher. He has also taught other subjects and has served as Assistant Princpal, and for one school term, Principal. We hope Mr. Stuart will have many fond memories of Robinson. We will miss him. However, it is a much deserved rest, and it will serve as an opportunity to travel to Europe and to raise his Irises. Rays Af A471--fx WH'-K 3 ADMINISTRATION 7 1 7X7 XXX Y A we New Traditions At Robinson It is my hope that in this yearbook you have caught some of the traditions and the spirit of Robinson 1973. The purpose of this annual is to relive some of the memories of the past year, and to record the accomplishments of our students, so that there is an inspiration to continue your work and realize life's hopes and desires. This year has many memories. We became the Robinson Rams, the Purple Yellers pep club was organized, the Rampage became our yearbook, we acquired a school song, and our motto became We're Out To Win ! Within the covers of Rampage we have at- tempted to show the reader not only the fun side but also the more serious side of school and to show that there is work and activity to occupy the student's time at Robinson. Arthur W. Mastin, Principal MR. ARTHUR MASTIN Principal . S MR. DON WRIGHT Assistant Principal Student Involvement In School Activities As the assistant principal I have developed a tremendous amount of pride and admiration for the students of Robinson. The academic excellence is a rich heritage, which has continued through the years. Extra- curricular activities and athletic prowess have enhanced the image or our school. Through the continued cooperation of parents, faculty, and students, this image will be pre- served. The academic and behavioral standards are purposely set high so that students will be challenged to attain high goals. I see the image of the Robinson student as a happy, industrious in- dividual who has pride in his school. This chal- lenge I extend to you. Don L. Girls Gym Leaders Science Club In Second Year The Science Club went into its second year of ex- istance, with Mrs. O'Brien again sponsoring it. Many of last years members showed up at the initial meeting this year, showing that there is a great in- terest in the many fields of science along with the preservation of the earth. You do not have to be a science student to join the club, but you must have an interest in science. The club has taken many field trips and had one community project for the good of the earth. The Science Club is also involved in the expedition to Alaska which will last for a month. The trip will cost approximately 351, 500 per person. john Hambright is expected to go. David Affeld plans his strategy carefully. Chess Club Holds Tournament ested members. They usually met on Thursday after-noons to match wit and skills. Student Council This year Student Council worked things a little differently, they held the school fun-nite in Septem- ber instead of in the spring. Student Council also planned an all-school party and a 7th, 8th, and 9th grade party. They had a new method of selecting of- ficers. They had two co-presidents instead of pres. and vice-pres. The co-presidents were Miriam Tra- vis and john Hambright. Through the United Fund drive the student body elected to support a child over seas. Student Council holds meetings every two weeks and will have sever- al inter-city meetings. The Student Council sponsor this year is Mr. jim Gress, who is currently working on his Master's De- gree at W. S. U. He used to teach painting at the parkboard and is a member of the Kansas Watercolor Society fKappa Pij, and is also a member of the So- ciety of North American Artists. Art Allows Expressivness Art class is usually a favorite course for Robin- son students. lt stimulates the creativness and gives the student a chance to express himself in his own style, instead of having a set of basics which allow no margins. The girls worked very hard to prepare cook- ies, candies, and other delicious things to eat. The sewing classes also participated by presenting a fashion show, in which they modeled the clothing which they had made themselves. The guests en- joyed it Very much, and it was a chance for the girls to practice being a good hostess. The purpose of the Home Economics classes is to teach the girls to use a kitchen, he a good host- ess, and sew. They also received information and advice on childcare and other necessary household skills. 'l i MRS. HARRIET HARRINGTON Cooking MRS. CARL KNEPPER Industrial Arts MR. RAY PYLES Industrial Arts English Talks! In Mrs. Taylors room this year, she decided to make communication her main theme. Whether it was in the form of written or Verbal expression, she encouraged their creativeness. Learning to listen and interpret what others say was also a part of the com- munication course. It may seem strange, but in back of Mrs. Banks room, 216, there was a tree named Fred. It was an experiment in open class where nothing is really uni- form. The students try to improve in areas Where they feel there is a need, or try something which is of interest to them. The tree was named after Fred Dornbos, who was kind enough to donate it. The students Worked very hard to restore the furniture which they gathered to give the room a homey look. Mrs. Steele was at it again, trying to make her room totally different to any other in the school with posters, signs, and mobils, all donated by students to beautify Robinson. Mrs. Steele has definitely done it again. This year We caught Mrs. Kimmel cutting class- es! Actually, she took a short vacation and went to Europe. We're glad she had a nice time. She ought to have some interesting stories to tell to her Lati.n classes! I, MRS. BONNIE STEELE MRS. BLANCHE BANKS MRS. WINIF RED KIMMEL Latin MRS. EVA ORNELAS Spanish MRS. WILDA SAMPLE MRS. The Ma- terial Center is open to all students at any time. The Ever Changing World Every year there are some Robinson students who take history, and every year there are some history students wondering why history is necessary when its just things that happened a long time ago. But history is necessary because the world is always changing, and in order to understand these happen- ings, we must also understand the background and reasons surrounding the event. History teachers are always acquiring new things to teach, and forever revising theories. janet Peirce, Theresa Rivers, and Susan Mills dis- Seventh grader Matt Johnston studies for one of Mr play their papier mache map for Mr. Carr. Special Education Students Learn Basic Skills Special education gives a boost to those students who learn at a slower rate. It especially helps self- image and social involvement. This year an emphasize will be made on the jobs you get, and the money you spend. This is to enable a student to plan for the kind of job Wanted and to lmow how to manage money for their needs and their wants. Handicrafts are used as a re- warding activity for work well done Mr. Minard's Mammonth Math Monstroslty Mr. Minard is in charge of Robinson's more complicated class, Algebra. However, at times, more than that goes on in room 309, like the day the paint- ers decided to come up through the window, everyone was sitting there, very calmly fcalmly for an Algebra classy doing their as- signment when a very strange squeaking noise was heard. Everyone looked over toward the window just in time to see the in- vasion. One of the lesser strong girls decided to scream. So, you see, there is never a dull mo- ment in Algebra class. . . The purpose was not to hurt the guinea pig, but to make a comparison of his weight to his diet. Mr. Samaras, our new science teacher, is mak- ing a first in Robinson history. His ninth grade class is taking up the practice of geology, or, the study of rocks, in simpleton's language. Mr. Smith took up an old but interesting prac- tice, dissection of frogs. Many a student found this an astounding assignment and many went home inter- ested, but not hungry. Physical Education Physical education is a class whose purpose is to build the body as well as to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, coordination, and the ability to get along with others. Gym and sports also help students by giving them an interesting hobby or by making them avid sports fans. Sports are important to all of us as we go through life. MR. JAMES EDWARDS Coach MR. Varsity Basketball Team Rams Are Better Than Ever In '73: Basketball is one of the main competitive sports at Robinson. The boys that participate in this sport practice long hours after school. This year the spirit was high because a pep club was formed to cheer our team on to victory. And they did just that! The Rams had one of the best teams ever, defeating Marshal, Hamilton, Curtis, Jardine, and other schools. This year we almost beat our rival, Coleman, for the first time. The game was close and defen- sive throughout with the Rams leading most of the way. Coleman went ahead one point with 37 sec- onds left to win the game with a final score of 25 to 26. This game was a real heartbreaker. This goes to prove that spirit does make a big difference. LEFT, Robinson fights to win the ball.
