In 1939, our excellent gym- nasium was completed. In 1954, twenty-eight new classrooms, a farm shop, an industrial arts shop, a cafeteria and a girls’ gym were added. Approximately 45 teachers teach a variety of courses, which are offered in every major field. A student body of 1,000 passes through the doors to class 185 days of the year. RHS is ranked as one of the highest centers of learning in Southern Illinois. In times gone by and as time passes, RHS advances to meet a growing community's needs. Of course, we can't all be completely satisfied when grades come out. There are always a few of us who wish we had © studied harder. Page 9 Preparation for the big game. Did it go in? All we need is one little point. Everyone seemed to enjoy the pepsi dances after the home games. Page 10 Bocudly Time cannot erase the excellent records RHS teachers have made and continue to make. Mayo Tohill was absent, These capable men make up the cornerstone of our school system. The members of the Board of Education are citizens of the Unit who are interested in the schools and render their time and efforts without compensation. These men, who are elected by the people of the Unit, work with the superintendent to better our school. Page 12 Our guidance counselor, Mr. John Parker, is always willing to help us solve our problems here at school. He is one of the busiest men in the school. Mr. Scott A. Funkhouser, Superin- tendent of Schools, strives to make our school better. His sin- cerity and dignified manner has won him the respect of the RHS students. Everyone has come in contact with Mr. E. O. May, principal of RHS. He tries to give the students a fair deal in all things concern- ing them. Mr. May returned to RHS after an absence of several years, during which time he worked in a teacher placement bureau. Page 13 FACULTY Page 14 DONALD L. BROUGH Eastern Illinois University B. S. Fall, with its beginning days of school, football season, and carnival, brings much excitement. The winter sea- son brings an untold story of tradition and good will to all of the patrons of Robinson High School. Spring, with a hidden beauty, carries thrills to all the student body and the teachers for all know that they are approaching a new season of excitement and a long term of the future. Senior Class Officers Sitting: Chloe Noblitt, Secretary, Sue Ellen Colliflower, Treasurer. Standing: Joe Harper, Vice President, David Wilkin, President. 1958 SENIORS In the spring of our high school career we, as freshmen, began our four year stay at RHS with much enthusiasm. We started earning money for our future years by actively par- ticipating in the annual school carnival. Chloe Noblitt was our freshman representative in the carnival queen race. As the summer of our high school came, we were well represented as the sophomore class. We sponsored a class dance known as the ‘‘Sophomore Subject Swing.’ Represent- ing our class as carnival queen candidate was Carolyn Stin- son. The autumn of our high school career approached and we, as juniors, participaied in many activities. Carnival was one of our major activities with Kay Alexander as our queen candidate. We presented the junior musical ‘‘Girl Crazy’’ with the co-operation of the music department. The combined ef- forts of these two organizations made the musical a tremen- dous success. The highlight of our junior year was our pre- sentation of the annual Junior-Senior Prom. A garden and fountain setting was perfect for the theme ‘‘Moonlight and Roses.’ In the December of our high school years, we had much success. The queen of the 1957 carnival was our senior candi- date Susie Shepard. Susie was escorted to the throne by David Wilkin, senior class president. Lynda Daron and David Wilkin were honored by being chosen DAR and SAR recipi- ents, respectively. As winter falls upon this four year stay at RHS, we, as departing seniors, find it hard to say good-bye to a place that has held so many happy memories for us. Carrying with us these wonderful memories, we bid the school and the faculty au revoir then turn to face the future. This is an award pre- sented by the Daughters of the American Revo: lution and is primarily a good citizenship award, although many other factors help de- termine the recipient of the award. Lynda has actively participated in many school activities during her four year stay at RHS. She served as secretary of her class her junior year and also helped on many committes. Lynda was also an active member of Latin Club, Drama Club, Band, and Tri-Hi-Y. Lynda has been an active member of the newspaper staff also. For the past two years she has held the posi- tion of feature editor. Her work on the news- paper staff earned for her membership in the honorary newspaper club, Quill and Scroll. Too, Lynda has been active in Student Council work. By this outstanding record, it is easy to tell why Lynda received this DAR award. David Wilkin was presented the SAR award by the Daughters of the American Revo- lution with the permission of the Sons of the American Revolution. During his high school career, Dave has been active in football cand basketball, receiving his letter in football dur- ing his junior year. He has been an active mem- ber in the Student Council, Latin Club, and Lettermen’s Club. Dave also was a member of Science Club. During his last and senior year in high school, Dave served as president of the senior class. Through his hard work and driving ambition, Dave has well earned this SAR award. Each month contains its own activi- ties which provide opportunities for re- laxation from studies, and leave behind many happy memories. From September, when school first starts complete with “green freshmen,’ until May when the “sophisticated seniors’ depart, is crowded with many activities planned and pre- sented by the numerous clubs. When we, as alumni, reflect on our years spent in Robinson High School, the activities in which we participated will remain as happy memories. Through the hard work of the juniors and seniors who compose the Robinillo staff, the book is compiled which contains a year's mem- ories at RHS. As juniors, the students learn the duties which their position holds, and in the next year, they help teach the newcomers to the staff. After much planning, the Robinillo is presented for the student's approval. Up to this time, the theme of the book is kept secret. The money for the yearbook is provided in many ways. Two of these are the sales to the students, and the annual all-school carni- val. The yearbook staff, along with the Drama Club and Student Council, share the responsi- bility of the carnival by taking charge of the election of queens. many sales are made, sucn as this one by Lois Thomp- son, business manager. Each year, as a climax of the carnival, the finale is held, at which time the queen is crowned. This corona- tion is planned by the Robinillo staff. Page. 55 BOTTOM ROW: J. Kerins, S. Shepard, S. The qualifications for entering Latin Club, one of the oldest clubs in the school, is to have had at least one semester of Latin. The purpose of the club is to familiarize members with phases of Roman life which can- not be considered in class because of lack ot time, and to create an interest in Latin. The club reflects in its organization the poliitical set-up of ancient Rome. Everyone is a Roman citizen—Latin | students are ‘‘slaves’’ until after initiation. The officers have Roman titles. There are two consuls who take the place of a president and preside over the meeting. The club is a member of the Illinois Jun- ior Classical League. LATIN CLUB OFFICERS Seated: D. Irvin, Prateor; L. An annual attraction around RHS each fall is t he all-school carnival which attracts people from near and far. Highlighting the carnival is the finale, at which time the queen is crown- ed, climaxing much hard work by all the classes for their respective candidates. Shown here are some views which will be remembered always by all who attended the 1957-58 RHS carnival. The queen, Susie Shepard, escorted by the senior class president, Dave Wilkin, enter- ing the gym for her coronation. Prom night is a magical night looked for- ward to by all students, and each year it is the job of the junior class to plan and present the prom for the seniors. In 1957 the juniors choose ‘‘Moonlight and Roses”’ for their theme | and carried it out with the name written in roses on one wall against a white background. The centerpiece was a three-tiered fountain with blue lights under the falling water. Donna Sue Glenn reigned as queen of the 1957 Junior-Senior Prom. Her attendants are Deanna Starwalt, Ann McQueen, and Mary Sue Willenborg. SATO EL TA RAEN ARTN NOLEN TENE SEEN AE During the prom, some students dance, as others relax for a while and talk with their friends. Page 84 Miss Donna Sue Glenn and her court during the coro- nation at the 1957 Junior- Senior Prom. She was crowned by junior class president, Don McCrory. Some of the students ‘‘live it up’’ during a fast num- ber by the band. Music was furnished by Don Lawrence and his’ orchestra’ from Champaign. Prom night is long-remem- bered, and each moment, whether it’s spent dancing or talking, is also recalled for a long time afterwards. Mutic Time marches on—so does the RHS Band, ‘‘The Marching Maroons,’ as they strive to make our school more outstand- ing. Both the “‘Mixed Chorus’ and the ‘Girls’ Chorus’’ have also played an im- portant part in attaining this goal. Many hours of hard work have not been in vain, as shown by the recognition received by the RHS Music Department for their many activities. CONCERT BAND FRONT ROW: N. Rehm, M. Catt, M. Toliver, P.
