Above And Beyond This year, the Armstrong Boys ' Soc- cer team enjoyed one of its finest seasons ever, reaching the semifinal match in the state tournament. The season started with much promise, but because of several injuries to key play- ers, such as goal keeper, Ben Bakken, the Falcons struggled through the first few games. But once the team was healthy, the Falcons began to dominate games, climbing steadily in the rankings. In the final poll of the regular season, the Falcons were ranked tenth in the state. The Falcons then posted impressive victo- ries over Hopkins and Minnetonka, earning them a spot in the region championship. The Falcons defeated 3 Wayzata in an exciting match. Fan support grew quickly as the Falcons beat Jefferson in the state quarterfinals. The Falcons lost to 2 Apple Valley in the state semifinal match, but the support of the fans and the fact that this was Armstrong ' s second best soccer performance ever made this a very memorable and satisfying sea- son, an excellent tribute to retiring coach A.L. Shaff and his staff. Ben Bakken shows his soccer moves on the field.
