Basketball The 1968-69 basketball season introduced a new era in the annals of Roberts Wesleyan sports. In addition to receiving the honor of acceptance into the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, Coach John Fraser was also able to get his recruiting program into high gear and bring to campus the most talented group of freshmen ever to enroll here. Roberts played a demanding schedule which meant traveling over 4,000 miles for engagements with top NAIA teams. The Raiders rebounded from a disastrous early season of only one win during its first nine starts to finish with a respectable 11-14 record, including the win over the alumni. After their poor start, the Raiders seemed to find themselves and put the pieces together with consecutive wins over RIT and Brockport State, thus keeping their dominance of Rochester area quintets. The team entered the Monroe County Tournament as defending champions, but surrendered the crown to Brockport State. As runners-up, the Raiders benefited from great efforts from Ralph Roach and Dave Scribner, who both earned a berth on the all-tournament team. A convincing win over rival Buffalo State was an outstanding highlight of the season. The year ended with a win over Geneseo State and an especially sweet victory over Fredonia State, bringing the basketball careers of seniors Paul Crowell, Ken Curtis, and Dave Scribner to an end. Crowell scored 485 points this season and placed himself fourth on the all-time Roberts points-per-season scoring list, and his 303 rebounds placed him in sixth position for most rebounds in a season. Ken Curtis finished in third position for career rebounds and sixth in career scoring. The only team record set this year was 468 free throws made, which broke the 1966-67 record.
