H 11 . . 1 1 1 1 1 - - , 11 ' 11 - .. , . 49 ERS In early September of 45 These 49ers began then' long drwe Ardelle Wayne Loretta Bobby B111 Norr1s Yvonne Phyllzs Allen Anna Mae and Lo1s Loretta was leader for the flrst lap of our trip Wmth Ardelle Wayne and Lo1s to help keep a firm gnp Though there were hardslnps galore that very first year A scavenger hunt and skatmg furmshed some cheer We broke camp agam 1n 46 And planned wxth some work much fun to mlx For head driver that year we chose Ardelle W1th Bob B111 and Lols to help drwe well The journey s rough spots were notxced qulte plam When off to Paxton moved our good frlend, Wayne, And Marchall Dubree who'd come late mn the year Went on to Indlana away from here But a part of the tr1p was soft r1d1ng on hay And a p1cn1c party proved a bnght spot m May By fall 47 we d rested a spell And were waxtmg to travel that year pell mell Then Allen was chosen to drwe well the head wagon, Wrth Bob Loxs and Loretta to keep tune from draggxn Traveled on to Peona by way of her tra1l For a Thanksgwmg party we stopped and had fun Though we d have to work fast to get everythmg done When Apr11 turned ramy and things looked pretty drear We changed showers to a party and added more cheer By May we were close to the Old South It seemed So Mexxcan charm on our banquet we streamed We stopped near the border and rested agam But moved on next fall for gold we d a yen That was the autuznn of 48 We were worned mxght be too late Very rapxdly that year for our leader we named Bob Wrth Ardelle Anna Mae and Allen to help w1th the job Soon after we d been started on thxs long last lap We ran into a party just across the gap We went on 1nto Paxton twas the name of the town Where we could see the game and go dancxng round and roun Next mormng dawn came early but the mght before d been fun So of course we didn t holler just got right up wxth the sun The next few months we worked and scraped and saved our pennies too For we had Eastern trip plans ln our chosen future view The March wand whzstled Lose your hats Come on and celebrate St Pat s We heard and heeded the proveeded To have a llttle fun we needed That lasted us for quxte awhxle Most unt11 the very last mxle 7 U 9 . - . u V . 9 But Loretta branched off and, though that fact we bewail, O - 5 . . . , ' a u o:--- - - . . , ., -- U -ll Then we rested and d1ned and danced Guests of juxnors pon whom we chanced There we talked of tune gone fast And thlngs we d worked at 1n the past It seemed quxte clear when we all looked back There were many th1ngs we d helped to pack For mstance our sports and llbrary too The Four O clock Club and muslc ior you The Sc1ence Club wmth 1ts 1ntr1cate chores And those two class plays all watch1ng the do As the evemng ended we moved on For the gold mlne sought was nearly won When we d arrwed and been granted our claur We found to get gold we must dlg the sarne On thmkmg It over that s not too bad l erhaps by hard work more gold can be had So we haml the world w1th dlplomas 1n hand And about double dare It to beat our band The drmve has been long and sometxmes hard But here we are IH gold mlner s yard So now we say wxth a joyous shout We ll look for your Campf1res near about And wmth you we d l1ke v1s1ts we confess To recall good tunes of R T H S 8 J k , , V -.- . . , , . . , . 1 1 - 0 '1 1 1 , . 1 e 1 , u - - 1 1 , . . 1 1 . . . , D '- 1 1 1 - - 1 1 1 U v - . f 1 . , . . . 1 1 - no . . . .
