MR. H. JONES - ADMINISTRA TOR bb, I have always maintained that the most important member of the hospital team is the nurse. The success of the entire hospital care program depends directly upon the indivi- dual nurse's ability and judgement. As a highly skilled professional providing contin- uous bedside care, you embody the most important aspect for our existence as a health care institution. It is imperative, because of this responsibility, that you have the benefit of the best possible education. As members of the 68th graduating class of the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing, you have completed one of the finest nursing education programs available. At a time when many problems have forced other schools to cut back or close, we have continued to improve on our concept of instruction which combines the best of a variety of educational methods. The Class of 1972 in particular represents a high point in the evolution of our pro- gram. You were the first class to begin college credit work at Elmira College. Your's was the first class to utilize the new Carl V, S. Patterson Education Building for the en- tire three years of your instruction. Your affiliations at specialized hospitals in New York and Philadelphia have provided extra depth to the broad education in nursing you have received here. This, combined with clinical experience in the hospital, has pro- vided a firm base on nursing principles which will serve as a foundation upon which to build future knowledge acquired through both your practice and continuing education. I am confident that you will each take full advantage of the preparation you have received here to distinguish yourself professionally and to exercise the compassion necessary in caring for the sick and injured. Good luck. 8
