Boys' Tennis The Boys' Tennis Team, coached ' by Mr. Louis Granger, has long been . a club in Simpson High School, but not until last season was it in an organized Suffolk County Athletic League. Last year the team placed third among teams from Babylon, Pat- chogue, Smithtown, Bay Shore, and is Port Jefferson. L Teeing Off The Golf Club, under the sponsorship of Mr. Wil- liam McCarthy, was organized in order to give stu- dents who have never held a golf club the opportunity to learn the basic steps in stance, grip, and swing. During the activity period the students practice in the gym, using door mats to serve as a green. ln the Spring the boys and girls practice outside on the field behind the school. Onlookers can see the excitement mounting in the girls' speedy volleys. Thirty be love is the score! The excitement mounts as tension increases between the two girls on either side ofthe net. Who will win this thrilling game of tennis? The skill of these girls is rewarding to Miss Hutchinson, who taught them to serve speedily, place the shots accurately, and improve their deadly aim. .gg an Ili iii Ill iii 'fl iii ' ' Ill U'

Although Mosque's activities throughout the past several years have been outstanding, during the 1951-52 school year they have reached an un- bounded height. Aside from the regular production, other equally well done presentations have been made. In December Masque presented three one-act plays for the Evening of Theatre . Bob Farrand, Joan Rub- man and Carolyn Yeary, along with other talented students, starred in Sir James M. Barrie's mystery Shall We Join the Ladies? Thornton Wilder's Happy Journey was also on the bill that evening. Kathy Kelly, with a supporting cast of John Reynolds, Jock McNeill, Francis Lowell, Jerry McNabb and Nancy Rhodes played the typi- cally American mother enjoying a week-end motor trip with her typically American family. In co-operation with the Huntington Community Theater, Masque produced an adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol . The adult cast was headed by Mr. Clint Marantz, who played Scrooge. The biggest undertaking of the year was the Spring presentation of Emlyn William's Night Must Fall . ln the part of the sweet-talking, homicidal psychopath, Roger Soule and Dick Walton swaggered with un- amateurish ease. Evelyn Walworth and Joanne Bate- man responded beautifully as the gullible, aged hypo- condriacs As the depressed, intellectual young woman torn between love and hate for her simpering charge's flatterer, Norma Ketay and Jane Gates played under- standingly. The rest of the double cost, wisely picked and finely trained, served well to keep the suspense high and the audience on the edge of their chairs. Credit may be given both to Mr. Marantz for his sympathetic direction and to those who worked with him for such remarkable response. We, as a school, are proud of their production. This year Masque ioined ANTA, whose purpose is to sponsor, stimulate and support good theater throughout the country. By this membership our club will be entitled to various services offered by ANTA to its member groups. STAGE CREW First Row fleft to rightj: R. Skidmore, J. Curnin, Little, G. lguchi. Varsity Baseball Coach Class has six letter men return- ing from last year's second place team. Heading the list is Captain Dave Ehlers at shortstop. Other returning players are Lou Scola at third base, Emil Latimer and Lenny Hicks in the outfield. Walter Krauss and John Mattiucci will be back to handle the pitching chores for the '52 Blue Devils. With many vacancies to be filled there will be many prospects battling for start- ing positions. VARSlTY BASEBALL Track The track team, headed by Coach Mar- lowe, looks quite promising for this year and next. Despite the loss ot several stars ot last year there is a group of likely tel- lows up from Junior High. The team is especially strong in the distance races. the quarter mile, the hurdles and broad jump. It a few sprint stars show up, the team will be solid from top to bottom.
