Boys' Hi-Y Boys' Hi-Y, a nation-wide high school youth movement working for a Christian democracy, is directed in our school by Mr. Schoepflin and Mr. Paul McCarthy. Bill Hammann was elected T951-52 president. This year they ran an unusually success- ful clothing drive and are planning several similar worthwhile projects. Library Club A valuable organization in Simpson High is Mrs. Potter's Library Club. The enrollment this year totals 42 members. The students devote spare time during study halls to checking books, magazines and shelves, and to keeping the library in a generally neat condition. Rita Digiacomo, Jane Gates, Mar- garet Petchler and Audrianne Hedlund do a fine iob as its officers and, like all the other members, deserve a vote of thanks from all of us. Arista The Greek word Arista means best , Conse- quently, the club seeks members who are the best in scholarship, sportsmanship, and service. Arista is not only the girls' honor society, it is a service club. Members act as hall hostesses, do volunteer work at the hospital, and may be found ushering at school concerts. A non-profit, club, Arista uses money earned Girls' Hi-Y Girls' Hi-Y has been a busy club this year. It nas done such things as stuffing dolls tor Christmas filling Thanksgiving baskets, holding dances, going on trips and working in the Y office. Another fea ture for this year is our having not one, but two Girls' Hi-Y's. There were so many girls that some- thing had to be done. Swinging the gavels as presi- dents are Mary Ellen Weiss and Barbara Moore. from candy and stationery sales for the support of various activities which benefit the school. Before the introduction of the activity period this year, the club had little support. Now its membership has increased to almost forty. The Art Club sponsors the spring art ex- hibit, puts up the Christmas decorations around the building and helps with decora- tions for dances. Another service of this or- ganization is making posters for the Service League Christmas Shop. Junior Red Cross The squeals of glee from Miss Colgan's room? The shouts of demoniac laughter? Fear not, friend, it's Simpson High's Junior Red Cross girls viewing their handiwork on party hats for hospitalized veterans at Mitchell Field. In aiding the work of the visiting blood- mobile, though, or in serving meals at the hospital or planning the ingredients of an overseas chest, the girls work seriously and thoughtfully.
