BRADLEY V 2, 2007-MAY l, 2009 Dear Shipmates, When I was first told that our assignment circumnavigate Africa on a Theater Security Cooperation mission in the interest of regional maritime safety and sec was extremely pleased. I was pleased because I strategic importance of Africa and how TSC directly international peace and prosperity and because - in my my heart - I knew just how good RGB Sailors would be at mission. To say that you have not fallen short of my expectations would be an understatement. Through sixteen TSC port visits your performance has been phenomenal. Your efforts have unquestionable enhanced regional maritime safety and security and by extension international peace and prosperity. In so many Ways, this has been a record-breaking and historic deployment. I thank the Cruise Book Committee for their time and talent in putting together this memoir of our mission. COMMANDIN G OFFICER USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY May l 2009-present EXECUTIVE OFFICER Sept 8, 2008 - May 1, 2009 I in the United States Naval Academy in 1991 with a of Science degree in Oceanography. In 1997 he Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs tStrategic Planning5 from the Naval Postgraduate Commander Sparks has served Division Officer assignments as Administrative Officer and Strike Officer in USS O'BRIEN CDD 9755 and as Electrical Officer in USS NIMITZ CCVN 685. He served as a Department Head as Operations Officer in both USS TAYLOR CFFG 505 and USS CHOSIN CCG 655, has served on the afloat staff of Commander, Cruiser er Group One CCONSTELLATION Battle Group5 as Flag Secretary and Assistant Chief of Staff for Administration. commander Sparks served as Commanding Officer of USS KINGFISHER CMHC 565. Commander Sparks has made numerous deployments to the Western pacific, Arabian Gulf, the coast of Africa, and the Mediterranean. Prior to reporting to USS ROBERT G. BRADLEY CFFG 495, Commander Sparks served in the Pentagon on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations CStrategy and Policy Division5. During his shore tour, he also served on the staff of Commander, United States central Command CUSCENTCOM5 and deployed to Doha, Qatar in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Most recently, Commander Sparks served as ROBERT G. BRADLEY's Executive Officer prior to taking command. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal C35, the Navy Commendation Medal C35, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal, in addition to various unit and campaign awards. 5
