COMMANDINCI COMMANDER WALTER G. STRONC., lR. Commander Strong was born in Beaumont, Texas on August 26, 1940, staying there until his family moved to Sulphus, Louisiana where he completed grammer and high school. He attended Georgia Tech, and in 1963 received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lou- isiana State University. In 1966 he received his juris Doctor Degree from Louisiana State University Law School. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Commander Strong was commissioned an Ensign in December of 1966 after completion of Officer Candi- date School in Newport, Rhode Island. He subse- quently served as Legal and Administrative Officer, U.S.S. NORTHHAMPTON KCC-11, Executive Officer, U.S.S. QUAPAWKATF-1101, Engineer Officer on U.S.S. BRUMBY KFF-10441, and Commanding Officer of U.S.S. ADROIT CMSO-5095. Ashore for the first time in 1974, he served three years as Flag Secretary, Aide, and Commanding Officer, Enlisted Flag Allowance to Commander, Mine Warfare Command, Charleston, South Carolina. He was then a student in the Com- mand and staff course at the Naval War College, New- port, R.I. His most recent assignment was as Executive Officer of U.S.S. DAVIDSON lFF-10453, assuming his duties as Commanding Officer, U.S.S. ROBERT E. PEARY KFF-10731 on june 6, 1980. On june 22, 1982, he relinquished his command of the PEARY, the day be- fore returning to Pearl Harbor, in preparation for transferring to his next command. They have to ensure that the Commodore has all of the information he needs to schedule the operations for his squad- ron of destroyers. Then they have to oversee its implementation. EXECUTI E OFFICER LIEUTENANT-COMMANDER IOHN W. WADDELL Born in Corpus Cristi, Texas on june 9, 1943, LCDR Waddell later moved to San Diego, California where he graduated from Kearny high school in 1961. joining the Navy on january 29, 1963 as an enlisted man, in june of 1965 he entered the University of New Mexico under the Navy's NESEP program. A qualified Aircrewman, prior to graduation with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in june of 1969, LCDR Waddell obtained the enlisted rank of First Class Petty Officer. Upon graduation and commissioning as an Ensign, LCDR Waddell was assigned to the U.S.S. IMPLICIT CMSO 4551 as Chief Engineer. From july 1971 until july 1972 he was assigned to the River Assault and Inter- diction Division in Vietnam. Entering the Navy Post- graduate School in Monterey, California in july 1972, he graduated in December of 1973 with a Masters Degree in Computer Systems and was assigned to the Naval Underwater Systems Command. From june through December of 1974 he was a student at the Navy's Destroyer School. rgssx 5 T Assigned to the U.S.S. IONAS INGRAM KDD-9387 in December of 1974 LCDR Waddell left there in De- cember of 1976, after serving as Chief Engineer, to join the COMDESRON FOURTEEN Staff as Material Officer. In December of 1978 he transferred to the United States Naval Academy as the Computer Oper- ations Officer. ln August of 1981 LCDR Waddell as- sumed his current position as Executive Officer of the PEARY. A list of his awards includes the Bronze Star with Combat V, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commen- dation, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. LCDR Waddell resides in Hawaii with his wife, Mary, and their sons Ken 1173 and Sean 1157.
