UPERLA T I VES l: Many have graduated from Lee who have made for themselves names that mean much to our state and community. They' have set eminent examples for all Lee graduates to follow. The Superlatives of Lee have striven to do their hest and hy doing this have helped Lee on its never-ending road of pro ress. It would he impossible to name all the superlatives from 1875 to l958, so we let this drawing ofthe old-fashioned boy and girl represent all of Lee's outstanding citizens.

M r. Moorels Message to the en L01 s TO THE CI X95 OF 58 Seyeral years ago Winston Churchill obsery ed The empires of the future are in the frontiers of the mlnd He made this statement at the tlme that large segments of the old British Empire either were breaking away entirely or were altering thelr relationship to the mother country Churchill saw clearly what many others did not That phy slcal and geographical conquest in the older sense of the term were an 3Il3Cl'lI'0l1lQII'I Even the most backward and llliterate peoples were astir the more ady anced and more largely expo ed to the Western culture and ideas were demandlng absolute freedom only the Red East was in bondage held there either by force of arms or through carefully selected puppet regimes The old British and French colonlal empires forged by blood and conquest adventurers and mlsslonaries tradlng emplres and soldlery were fadlng into history They had seryed their purpose Mr Churchllls statement was prophetic for from the day the Russians launched an earth satellite and shocked u broken out and through conquest has now taken on an intellectual hue and the nation that loses the race IS lost for generations In a space dimensional war domination IQ absolute once it IS achieved There IS no second chance What does this mean for the Class of 099 Simply stated it means a vastly changed and changing world and a much more demandlng one Nothing can stop vast changes m our lives unless we expect to be conquered or blackmalled You young people will haye to put flrst thmgs first There must be no qulbbling for example, about the cost of educatlon there must be more of 1t and of yastly superior quallty for everyone competent to learn The new world has no place for the IllltCI'Ht6, the laggard the lazy or the untramed We have one slmple choice to rule or be ruled A nation that IH a space of twelve months calls lntellectuals eggheadsl' and then asks them to save the nation needs some soul searching A people who spend vastly more on liquor cigarettes and cosmetics than on education needs to wake up A nation that puts a price tag on a human bemg and judges him by wealth or influence needs to re examine its prlorltles The solving of these problems hes largely with you your decisions will determine your own future Thlnk about lt I . so s I Y Y . .
