The records will show, Our deeds will prove, ln words and in action, W6,1'6 in the groove. Our records in sports are all just the same. We're still the best and should go down in fame. But since weore here, we might as well say, We're here to build and not to slay. And last, but not least, there are the faculty members, Whom we are to praise, Because they all saw us here in this stage. Cfddd Ong By JOYCE PRYOR Tune: A Tree in the Meadow There's a feeling of sadness ln our hearts as we say Our fun and gaiety have Passed like the day. The teachers who guide us And the friends that we knew We'll carry in our hearts Their names to places old and new. And as we go to venture far, Silhouettes we'll leave behind To be remembered through the years As the seniors of '49. By this Symbol of Greatness Our thoughts will always lie. And where'er we go, our Memories will remain in the Halls of u0le Lee Highf, COAP6 C055 QALUQI' Red and White Carnation molto To be rather than seem i 13 ,X DONALD BRANNUN CHARLES COOPER Ulf'-my Military, 3, 2g Biology Club, 33 Junior Entererl Lee from Grillin in 19161 R.U.T.C.. Only one senior was on the varsity squad that wound up a none-too-successful season with three wins registered against seven setbacks. The Rebel footballers started the ten-game schedule with a slow start by losing the first six. As the season rolled along, the lads from the Institute Xracked up three straight wins before dropping their last game to Griffin. The Rebels hit the road for the opening game with Fulton and bowed out, 12 to 13. 'k 'A' I Lee opened the home schedule with Cedartown before losing a heart-breaker, 18 to 13, in the final quarter. 4 4 Next in line for the Rebels came a powerful Decatur eleven that rolled up 30 points to Lee's 6. 'k 'A' Lee journeyed to Fitzgerald to tackle the strong South Georgia champs. After outplaying the Purple Hurricane in every way except the scoring department, the Rebels lost, 21 to 7. i' 'A' The next game, with Spalding High in Griffin, resulted in the Rebels' fifth straight defeat. The Wolf- pack won, 19 to 12. 'k 'A' LaGrange was the first squad to hold the Green Rebels scoreless when they won, 26 to 0. i i' 'A' Then it happened when the Rebels traveled to Americus. Both teams were winless', when the Rebels traveled the Panthers, 26 to 6, after trailing in the first quarter. 'ki' Athens furnished the opposition for the Rebels in their eighth game. A Rebel rally put the game on ice for Lee, 21 to 14. in the first period 'ki' The fighting Rebels pushed a favored Baker Village team in Columbus, 19 to 6, before returning home to wind up the season with Griffin. i' 'k The largest throng of football fans ever to watcha football game in Thomaston was on hand to see the game Rebels fall before the Griffin Goldwave, 20 to 0, in the last game of the 1948 season. SUMMARY OF BASKETBALL SEASON OF '48-,419 The basketball season of '48-'49 started with a double-header against Yatesville. It was on this night that Yatesville dedicated their new gym. The rest of the season was composed of various games with both teams participating. During the course ofthe season Lee played Hogansville, Jackson, Zebulon, Grif- fin, and other teams. Both teams played every game with their hearts set to win, and there was never a game that either of the Lee teams gave up before the last whistle of the game blew. As a whole the sea son was very successful. LEE GIRLS LEE BOYS Lee 18 .... --Yatesville ee 14f--,L .,,.. Yatesville Lee 25 .... Hogansville ee 23 ..,.
