No Cure for Fridays The clock ticked away slowly and minutes passed like hours as students gazed ahead almost senselessly. Senior Johnathon McStudd looked dreamiiy at the clock - two forty-five. He sighed heavily. English had to be the second to worst subject anyone could have at the end of the day. Everyone knew math was the worst. Pinpointing that would be geometry. Who could concentrate on triangles and equations when the most prominent number on a student's mind was 3:30? Not to men- tion pie l1'Ij. Everytime that word echoed through the room, Johnathon tasted coconut cream melting in his mouth. Class, class the teacher's whiny, nasal voice swam through the room. Control yourselves . . Here came the ever-so familiar bi-weekly lecture. I know it's sixth period and I know you're tired but l'm tired too. Johnathon tuned her out at that point and just as he did Marlow Rider yelled out, Then let's all just go home. The class simultaneously gave a limp laugh, more to annoy the teacher than to humor Marlow. Three-fifteen: Johnathon could han- dle that. One of his friends used to tell him that once you got past three it was . .QA 1 Q -V , QE' 'ik 'M ' - ' fs' '--' sf- -- down hill all the way. But to Johnathon the last fifteen minutes dragged on slowly and very un-surely. After glancing at the clock at least forty-five more times, the bell finally sounded. lt rang so loudly that as Johnathon walked down the hall it still echoed in his ears. He tried to relax and to allow the afternoon's activities to envelope him. Hey, how about a pizza from Godfather's? Let's drag down Jackson-Keller. He grinned when he heard that, because usually the race started in the parking lot. As he turned the corner he caught the end of two girls' conversation, C'mon, why go all the way out to the smoking area? Let's just go to the bathroom. Johnathon held his breath after he heard that and as he walked outside he let the fresh air surround him. It was great to be out even if it was just for seventeen hours. Besides, soon it would be the weekend. But for now, Johnathon McStudd planned to col- lapse on the couch in his usual 4:30 position and allow himself to be ab- sorbed by that wonderful ecstasy .. .
