Lee is the history of the South during her greatest crisis. His history is bound up with that of the Army of Northern Virginia, on whose imperishable deeds and incomparable constancy rests his fame. But his own high character, his moral courage, his noble nature, and his mastery of the art of war make Robert E, Lee a figure rarely equaled in the pages of history. As a general, Lee's chief characteristics were his rapid grasp of the possibilities of a military situation his skillful use of interior lines of communication, his capacity for guessing what was in his opponents' minds, and his understanding of their weaknesses, Few commanders have exceeded him in the power to arouse devotion in his men. His only weakness was a tendency to trust his subordinates too much, and an unwillingness to force his decisions upon them. To Robert E. Lee, great general and great man, we dedicate the first Traveler. fi 1 S 2 X x Q i i 1 ,gwggm W I5 - te Lee, having received his a o' pp intment from Andrew Jackson, en d re West Point at 18 Graduating second in 1 . a c ass of 42 and never having received a d ' ' ' C3 emerit, he carried off the highest honor that a det could receive - the cadet-adjutancy of the corps He was a - P pointed to the aristocracy of the a ' X , X 3' M53 i ,.,, : -. With the threat of war, he ex- pressed his political creed when he said: I can anticipate no great- er calamity for the country than the dissolution of the Union. . . Still a Union that can only be maintained by swords and bayonets, and in which strife and civil war are to take the place of brotherly love and kindness has no charms for me. If the Union is dissolved and the Government dispersed, I shall return to my native State and share the miseries of my people and save in defense, will draw my sword no more. l l l 8 4 Cfougratulatians X 7? ooo AUBREY ALEXANDER RONALD ACTON Baseball 2, Track 2, 3, Football 3, 4, History Club 3, Hi-Y 3, 4, Dramatics 4. The main project for the junior class was the gala Junior-Senior Prom held in April. To raise money to sponsor the dance, the whole class sold magazine subscriptions which was to be the only plan for raising money. The theme Rhapsody in Blue carried out with blue lights and decorations set the mood in the Agudas Achim Synagogue. To get ready for the Prom, the juniors sponsored a Thanksgiving Dance after the Lee-Mac football game. Juniors are now looking forward to their final year at lee, hoping to make it even better than '59. kgs Standing in the hallway, wait ing for the bell to ring. e QE V YA fi if fi ,S ai! 1... . 3 -1' g , ,J .fi J S if 33 -1 f I Q! s z Q ., ff 'J 1 ' . 2' IL H W. , Iffy , , Ii? f Ziff V, ' if 1 1 4 5-if 1 g 9 I wh 3. 4 f fff 143' ww, Hr .A ,I 'vi f v if 4? if fp- . x gf? f' if , , v .. f'j'ff O X o A i n , 10 Q , K ,, 4, N N 4 t, ' 1 A IO0 IUSV Nd Shawn 1 ,I I I PHOTO N I A-rmlub BETTY DAVIS Lee takes .1 bus Iond of smut to Pt, I..Iv.ma, the juniar Ulass HELEN BYARS CHRISTY CARNAHAN JIMMY CAVIN BILLIE CECIL DIANA CLARK DON COLEMAN IIM COLGLAZIER MICHAEL CONLISK .IOY COOK PATRICIA COSTELLO VIRGII.
