CONNIE FREDERICK HOWARD BOZEMAN DAVID WELCH Junior Halfbock Junior Halfback Junior Fullback One of the greatest comebacks in the history of the school gave Robert E. Lee a spine-tingling 27-26 victory over the Vigor Wolves, The Generals trailed 20-O qt the intermission as the Wolves controlled the first half on the sterling passing of quarterback Scott Hunter. The second half, practically a complete reversal from the first, was all Lee, just as the first and second periods had been all Vigor. The Generals took advantage of a fumble and 2 Connie Frederick interceptions in the third and fourth quarters. Howard Bozeman's 4l-yard TD iaunt in the third quarter ignited the Lee charge. Wills pounced on a fumble at the Vigor 32, and the Generals were in business again. Gary Milton bulled in from 2 yards out on the fifth play and VVelch's PAT brought the Generals to within 6 of Vigor. Vigor was forced to punt on third down and Lee took over at midfield. The Generals then carried it in in 8 plays. Enslen's dive from the 3 knotted the score at 20-20. The extra point snap was fumbled. Enslen galloped l2 yords around right end for the final Lee score. A 24-yard scoring strike climaxed a Vigor march and cut the Lee lead to l. Then on Ricky White's conversion try tackle Jerry Wills broke through for a game-preserving block with only i8 seconds left. Lee Generals. The Generals, after recovering the opening kickott, scored on the first play from scrimmage as Bobby Enslen tossed a 20-yard TD pass to Morgan Lawrence. RALPH HAMN PEP PILGREEN GLENN TATUM Junior Quarterback Junior Quarterback Junior Fullback The truth of Records don't mean a thing in this one was illustrated in grand style as Coach Jones' Generals de- feated the previously undefeated, untied, top ranked, and highly favored Poets T3-7. Lanier took the opening kickoff and drove to the Lee 22, where Wills fell on a fumble to give Lee the ball. After putting the ball on the Lanier 6, Enslen hit Milton in the end zone for the hrst score. Welch kicked the PAT. The Poets took over, but lvlcClinton intercepted a Hardwich pass on the Lee 39. Lee was forced to punt and Lanier started moving. The fumble bug hit again and Tatum recovered for Lee, Three plays later Bozeman streaked 49 yards for Lee's second score. Lanier blocked Welch's extra point try and the Poets found themselves on the low end of a T3-O score. The Poets started for their only score on the arm of Hardwich. Hardwich made the score and Bob Childs added the point to make it T3-7. The second half was all defense. The Poets had the ball only twice in the third quarter, and both times interceptions stopped them cold. Lee threatened in the fTnal period as Big Red moved to the Lanier T7. A David Welch field goal try missed to end the last scoring threat by either team. Enslen Drives For Extra Yardage T55
