Lee defense accounted for victory as the Generals rambled past the Etowah County Blue Devils 34-20. Etowah took the opening kickoff and drove 52 yards for the flrst score of the game. Kenneth Wood's fumble recovery at the Devil 24-yard line put the Redshirts in the ball game. The Generals tied the score in 7 plays on Jerry Henderson's touchdown and David Welch's PAT. Early in the second quarter, the Generals took the lead for good when Louis Priester scooted I5 yards around right end. The extra point try went wide, and Lee held a l3-7 margin. Before Lee followers finished celebrating the TD, Joel Stevenson intercepted a stray pass and scampered untouched for the six-pointer. Another Welch PAT made it 20-7 in Lee's favor. Another TD and PAT put the Blue Devils back into the ball game, 20-14. After Connie Frederick punted 49 yards he recovered another fumble at the five. Priester then scored from the four. A Welch PAT gave Lee a 27-T4 spread. Etowah fought back into the game with a 69-yard TD march, making the score 27-20. With less than six minutes to play Terry DePasquale deflected a pass and Sammy Johnson picked it out of the air, racing l5 yards to paydirt. Welch's fourth PAT ended the scoring for the night. Lee Generals played their strongest game of the season, defeating the Walton Braves 47-T4. Lee opened the scoring T9 seconds after taking the opening kickoff. Jerry Henderson broke loose for 32 yards on first down and Bobby Enslen darted TO yards around right end four plays later for the TD. David Welch's extra point boot made it 7-O. The Braves stormed back and tied the score at 7-all in 8 plays. The Leemen forged into the lead quickly, marching 58 yeards in 7 plays with Henderson carrying for the second TD. The Generals used two key fourth- down plays for another TD. Louis Priester's T6-yard run carried to the Braves 23, and Elbert Bell scored the touch- down. Welch gave Lee a QT-7 margin at intermission. Henderson climaxed a 58-yard drive with a l-yard plunge for another TD. Pep Pilgreen intercepted a stray Walton aerial to set up Lee's next TD. Enslen bootlegged around right end for the score. Enslen also tallied the next General TD early in the final quarter. Terry DePasquale picked off a Walton pass and set up the final Lee score. Glenn Tatum reached paydirt on a 33-yard run. Walton scored with 34 seconds remaining from Tommy Jones' pass to end Butch Hackett. Jones' PAT run ended the visitors' scoring. Lee Generals charged back and rambled past Besse- mer's Purple Tigers 42-7. Larry Kimbell, after fumbling the opening kickoff momentarily, raced 80 yards up the middle of the field for the Tiger's only touchdown. Buford Smith kicked the extra point and Bessemer led 7-O. Lee regrouped quickly and took the kickoff 57 yards to paydirt. David Welch's tirst of five PAT boots tied the score at 7-all. The Leemen took the lead for good before the period ended when Enslen capped a 54-yard march with a l-yard dive off tackle. A Welch boot made it T4-7. Louis Priester's pass interception at the Bessemer 20 set up the third Lee score. Howard Bozeman took it in from the IO four plays later. Welch kicked true again, making the score Qi-7. The Redshirts broke it wide open in the third quarter with 2l markers. Priester zigzagged 20 yards on a fourth-and-six play for the first TD, Enslen passed 61 yards to Elbert Bell for one, and Ralph Hamn galloped 23 yards for the other just as the third quarter ended. Jerry Wills, a usual kickoff man, kicked his first extra point of the season after the last TD. Frederick spearheaded the Lee attack as he rushed lO5 yards in 9 carries.
