Out'side the Class'room Despite limitations put on the student body by House Bill 72, extra-curricular activities not only did not falter, but attained a level of excellence not seen for many years: Char - is - mat' - ic Kay what the club leaders were in their attempts to inspire their followers Ex. - As new rules discouraged participation in extra- curricular activities, club presidents were chal- lenged to make their clubs seem both rewarding and appealing. Cre - a'tive Kay the new ideas various clubs used to promote participation and spirit Ex. 1 - Student Council sponsored a CleanLee campaign to maintain the recent campus improvements and give all students a sense of belonging through ac- tivity. Ex. 2 - When the Homecoming parade had to be cancelled, the parent's Booster Club and the Spirit Committee put together a bonfire to keep the General spirit lit. Ef- fect'ive fa.l the results of club activities Ex. 1 - Anchor Club's Fall toy drive proved to be timely for needy children at Hermann Hospital. Ex. 2 - Once again Key Club held a blood drive to supple- ment an always meager supply.

, 1 A - way from School With the increasing pressure put on the students in the classroom, not only to be educated, but to do it by the rules, students felt the need not only to relax, but to rebel. Vacations,' for Lee students were not a time to rest, but a time to lose sleep and party. The activities were broad, but most had a common bond: theme parties Inj a gathering in which students took on various roles Ex. 1 - Some of the student body engaged in mock warfare as others headed south of the border for a fajita fest. Ex. 2 - Guys and gals shed their designer labels and donned Uno-name brands for a generic party. for'mals Inj a time to play dress up Ex. - Students put on the ritz as they sweated and danced to the f'Magic of Mardigrasf' C3S'U - als 01.1 co-ed get-togethers usually held just to avoid loneliness Ex. 1 - Freshmen followed tradition and converged at establishments such as Mr. Gatti's. Ex. 2 - No longer stimulated by the mass of open parties, seniors reverted to primitive fun such as bowling and watching movies at home. Ex. 3 - The YMCA generously provided space for post-game dances and buses for transpor- tation to the football games.
