For Lee's students, school activi- ties were not limited to the time between 8:00 am and 2:50 pm. Lee High School played a much greater role in the lives of its students - most were involved in at least one of Lee's numerous extra-curricular activities, and many spent countless hours away from school participat- ing in school-related activities such as sports and service organizations. November's presidential election was the subject of numerous heated debates among students and teach- ers, and students demonstrated a great interest in and awareness of the world's political activities. On November 4, Americans elected a new president, in high hopes that he would be able to initiate changes that would improve the American system. The federally imposed law pro- hibiting the sale of soft drinks

class to Lee brought with it many changes. The increase in enrollment from 2000 in the '79-'80 school year to 2700 in '80-'81 made it necessary for the students to put up with incredibly crowded halls, to spend valuable passing time finding the up or down stairways, and to tolerate a fourth period lengthened to 70 minutes in order to accommo- date four lunches. The initial animosity between the freshmen and the other classes soon quieted down, however, as the fish began to find their niche at Lee. The sophomore, junior and sen- ior classes forgave the freshmen for all of the inconveniences caused by their presence, and the freshmen forgave the other classes for all the hassling they received. After the first month of conflict, the freshmen became a vital and vibrant part of ee.
