We will never forget what we liked, what turned us on - the trends, the lads, the purely enjoyable aspects of life. These provided the fla- vor for our actions, the uniqueness of our year. Across The Street Restaurant seldom wit- nessed a day without Lee students entering the door. Curiosity sent us throughout Houston seeking original places for weekend excite- ment, but familiarity drew us back to the hang- outs. Westheimer, from far off Ashford to myste- rious Montrose, became our drag, passing through the core of an expanding Houston. For the sociable majority, parties and dances of vari- ous forms highlighted memories as well as cal- endars. Ventures away from the tense city brought relaxation. The adventurous surfed in Galveston or water-skied in the Hill Country. Austin and College Station added special attractiveness to out of town trips, especially for college-bound seniors.

The appearance of Jojos Restaurant wiped away a portion of the field, hardening our hatred for the parking conditions. Student Council maneuvers gave us a renewed hope that the ancient student parking lot would be extended. HISD food remained ever unpopular. Food establishments on Hill- croft, Richmond, and Westheimer enticed our appetites, calling for further attempts at an open campus proposal. The religious revival of the mid-'70s retained strength in '78, Young Life ses- sions added a totally different dimension to the year. Depleted finances demanded after school and weekend working hours. As in school, the immediate results over- shadowed the experiences gained. Spir- itual and financial support for the present kept us alive. Our past experiences and relation- ships with other students affected the extent of our involvement. Sophomores received a year of exposure. Juniors formed the core of activity, while Seniors accepted trend-setting roles and looked toward graduation with a sense of confu- sion - where had the time gone??? But time had not wasted away. We learned, not only in the conventional sense, but through continuous involve- ment.

Clothes and cars exposed our true natures. Lee males placed a virtual monopoly on Levis jeans and cords. The female look of the past gave way to a more feminine wardrobe, and we couldnt help noticing the topsiders and Oxford shirts of the few who went with the college prep look. We drove to school in jeep-type vehicles, sports cars, vans, or the old family car. The automobile remained a sign of status. Music paralleled our personalities. We had a strong tendency to relate memories with specific tunes. From hard, electric cords to soothing melodies all found admirers among us. The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Waylon and Willie, attracted our admiration, but opinions differed when comparing Cat Stevens and Linda Ron-stadt to Ted Nugent and Kiss. Seventy-eight signalled the arrival of Foreigner and the Emotions, the increased popularity of Heart and James Taylor, and the sad departure of the King of Rock, Elvis Presley. Concerts joined followers in the Coliseum and Summit, while more personal performances were held in the Music Hall and Texas Opry House. Surrounding our own, we found a world of excitement, a world of enjoyment.
