On November 28, at the annual football banquet, awards were given to the outstanding players on the team. Charlie Williams received the award for Most Valuable Player, while Kevin Henry was named Most Valua- ble Back. Charlie Williams was also announced as winner of the Armchair Generals Award for the most out- standing player. Coaches, teachers, and parents were present to congrat- ulate each player for the last time. Although the banquet at the Briar Club marked the season's climax, anticipations of an even better team next fall were already developing. Contests provide Lee students with an opportunity tor further involvement throughout the year. One of the most popular is the Most Beautiful or Most Handsome contest in which any Lee student may participate, although nominees are initially elected from the homerooms. For the first time, both the nominees and semifinalists were judged in person by a select panel. The results were kept secret until May, when the SABER was issued, and the suspense became a reality. Through participation in club activi- ties, students have an additional chance to compete in contests against students from other schools. This year, the Latin Honor Society participated in Roman Games Day, which was held at Lamar High School. Students took part in chariot races and grape-eating contests. These contests provide a necessary break from the normal educational atmosphere of the classroom. Kirk Pfeffer can't believe his low number in the Most Handsome judging, as Bennett Hughes, John Tipton, Craig Damuth, and Frank Bonno express disagreement in their ratings.
