Learning about free enterprise in the business world is a daily experience for DECA officers - Marsha Doyle, historian, Corrine Kelly, vice-president, Janet Brower, parliamentarian, Steve Nor- wood, president, Sherri Schuler, secretary, Laura Campbell, treasurer, Lady Washington, reporter. Many students enrolled in a distributive education class at Lee ioin a national youth organization known as the Distribu- tive Education Clubs of America, or DECA. The purpose of this club, sponsored by Mr. Kelly Ritch, is to develop leaders in the fields of marketing and distributing. Students include one D.E. class in their daily schedules, and then leave school early to receive on-the-iob training at their respective jobs. Besides completing a proiect involving seven studies in marketing, many DECA students attended area and state' Youth Leadership Conferences and an employer- employee banquet at the Astro-Hotel. To be eligible for membership in DECA, a student must maintain a C grade av- erage and E conduct average and have a good attendance record. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday night of every month. 73

October 1971 brought a new club to Lee to honor outstanding students in Latin - the Latin Honor Society. To be eligible for membership, students must maintain a B grade average and an E in conduct and complete two years of Latin or be presently enrolled in a Latin course. Primary goals set by this selected group are to foster the development of academic standards in Latin and to be of service to Lee. Mrs. Walleah Tennyson is the club's sponsor. Russians Battle Germans To learn more about the language, cus- toms, and culture of Russia, many students ioin the Russian Club, sponsored by Mrs. Charlotte Outlaw. Speakers, films, and various proiects fa- miliarize the club members with Russia, and the annual Food-Tasting Party pro- vides a special taste of Russian life to the adventurous. Highlighting 1972 was another exciting volleyball tournament played between the German and Russian Club members. 72 L.H.S. H Y f - '7 ' r W MTVN W 4,-,+ courages citizenship and social develop- ment among other qualities essential to' a superior office worker. Students with an interest in office occu- pations or those enrolled in Vocational Office Education classes are qualified to join O.E.A. Club members attend school half a day and then leave to work in of- fices in the city. Their activities in O.E.A. also included attending three Youth Lead- ership Conferences in April and May and an employer-employee banquet in April. Through active participation in this club, students gain a valuable insight into the business world.
