To provide a basic background so that students may be fully prepared for the in- tense pressures which face each science student in college - this is the goal of each science teacher as he strives to in- spire even the least scientifically-minded student in the fields of physical science, biology, chemistry, physiology, oceanog- raphy, and physics. Field trips in oceanography provide an interesting activity as do the dissections of cats or pigs in physiology and maior- works biology. Students interested in chemistry are encouraged to enhance their knowledge by attending public semi- nars taking place throughout the year. A science club was organized at Lee this year so that interested students could discover and experience more specialized aspects of science. Headed by Mr. Howard Behrens, the science department continually tried to motivate the student's interest in science, of which a basic knowledge is almost es- sential in an increasingly technological society. Really, Bob, how do you ever expect to pass this course if you can't even light your own bunsen burn- er? Mrs. Hunter iokes with Bob Jungman as Debbie Weyel and Mike Serant agree. 21
