He is extremely proud of Lee and takes an interest in all activities of Lee students. Friendly and good natured, he is willing to help out in every possible way, even by taking his shovel and help- ing Lee students plant trees and shrubs to beautify the school. In his two years at Lee, his enthusiasm in working with the students and faculty has contributed much toward making Lee a better school. As Dean, Mrs. Mary Carolyn Smith is responsible for all areas of student life, particularly those related to the interests and welfare of the girls at Lee. She works behind the scenes, planning and coordinating all of the activities that make student life more interesting and en- joyable. Om? Walking slowly down the emptied and quiet hall, he turned to smile at a late-working teacher. Perhaps considering one of the many facets of his job of decision-making and responsibility, he stopped to pick up and replace a book which had fallen out of a half-open locker. This is Mr. J. T. Shivers, basically a mild- mannered and dignified man, who carries out the tasks of his job capably and with careful con- sideration. He takes great pride in his school and the many achievements and advances it has made while under his guidance. He takes an avid in- terest in the many activities of his school, and may always be depended on to offer his help or support. He is uncomplicated and hard-working, and among other interests in his time away from the school, he enjoys working with his Tennessee Walking Horse, Star of Midnight. In his six years of service at Lee, he has seen the school grow tremendously, in enrollment as well as in spirit, and this year the school proudly boasts a new wing. His contributions have done much to make Robert E. Lee the out- standing school it is today. Nearing the entrance to his office at the end of the hall, he opened the door and walked to the front of his desk. He picked up a folded news- paper, and after reading a note left on his desk, turned to leave, quietly shutting the door behind him. H-.J 77z4ao,l,-ima M MR. J. T.
