Standouts offensively were Alan Richardson, a third-team all-state selection at center, Ron Corbett, an all-district running back, guard John Hall and end George Goodloe, both of whom were also named to the All-District team. They brought the jayvee mark for the last three seasons to 49-5. The team scored more than 100 points in three different games, and had four players averaging in double figures. Phil Ware, Howard Vaughn, Mark Newlen, and Benny Ergenbright averaged more than ten per game. Randy Gultz, the other starter was the leading play-maker. They finished 7-5 in dual meets, second in the Handley Relays and first in the SMA Invitational. The win in the rain at SMA was the high point of the season.
