As a student of history, Mr. Smither has endeavored to instill in each student who attends Lee High a reverence and love for our Virginia history. Through him the spirit of Robert E. Lee has been kept alive. Thus, it is only fitting that we dedicate this 1960 LEEWAY to a man who has followed closely in the tradition of Robert E. LeefMr. Collin E. As spring grew nearer, bringing with it graduation, the Class began to -make plans for the Senior Prom. As early asjanuary. they began work on the Senior Banquet. Committees were appointedg plans were madeg and suggestions were considered for the Class's gift to the school. The class members contributed clothing and supplies for his welfareg the class treasurer sent his allowance in monthly installments and the seven homeroom secretaries began a monthly correspondence with him. Second semester bake sales and bottle drives kept the juniors scurrying to and fro, raising money for their prom. The class treasury greatly increased after a successful sale of Lee booster pins at the District 5 basketball tournament. Stardust was the theme of the junior Prom. This was the largest and most ex- citing class undertaking. The court, band, decorations and refreshments complemented the theme. The class is indeed grateful for the guidance and labor of their sponsor, Miss Barton.
