Inv- Kung Fu basketball. I I was only kidding . . . What a Relief! Symbol of Total Experience It laid on my dresser and it sparkled with memories . . . Here was a ring that stood for three years that I'd never forget . . . my senior ring. I leamed to love that year and the people that had touched my life. I put it on and once again I was re-living the excitement, the anticipation, and the glamour of high school life. I remember all the hours I spent meeting friends at Love's and the gravel pit and how those sunshine-filled days of friends and smiles made the days seem endless. We listened to music, planned parties, made floats, caught movies, waited for the SAT and ACT scores, ate pizza, cried at the last foot- ball game, wrote themes, picked on underclassmen, skipped class, signed each other's yearbook, and laughed about our most embar- rassing moments. The hallways were always full of pain, laughter, fear, and under- standing friends. I wished that my senior year could have lasted a lifetime . . . I realized that I couldn't go back to it anymore. Those years had spun by so fast that I wasn't aware that it was climaxing into a sudden close Cgraduationj. I turned my ring over and watched it glitter as the sun hit it. I was moved to recall all the important lessons that I had learned. The Re- bel flag flew proudly in my mind and I still listened to the Fight Song and Dixie as it played in my heart. Now, I have found myself at a dazed stand-still . . . out of touch with the old gang, out of security and protection with nothing but a piece of gold that symbolized the most honored time of my life . . . The ring that stood for the total experience and Robert E. Lee High School that I loved so much. A by Sherri Bassett 75
