President Ford greets Midlanders as they welcome him. President Ford visited Midland on September 13, 1975, coming here to dedicate the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum. It was a big event for Midlanders and Odes- sans, as approximately 8,000 spectators gathered at Terminal for his arrival. Ford is the first President to visit the Permian Basin since Harry Truman in 1948. Included among the spectators were the Lee and Odessa High bands. At 4:35 the'President stepped out of his plane and was greeted with Dixie,,' as signs went up to welcome him. He shook hands with numerous people, as everyone wanted to touch him. Al- though it was wet and cold, it did not seem to affect the feelings of excitement within the crowd. It was a day to remember for Midlanders, and a great event for our Bi- centennial celebration.
